Countrygirl,

I'd like to add to the wonderful hints you've already received! I'm a 30 yr habit smoker that lives with a DH that still smokes. I had to make the ecig as satisfying as the cigs so that I wouldn't walk 20 feet across the room and grab one from my husband's cig pack.

I had to upgrade from the regular 3.7 volt Ecigs to a 5 volt and then onto a variable volt. Those stronger mods hit the back of my throat and *feels* just like a puff on a cig. It's warm and massive amounts of vapor. The cheapest 5 volt thing you could try would be Madvapes 5 volt pass-through with their 2 amp wall plug adapter. Those 2 things would run you $27. You can plug it into any electrical outlet wherever you are. The 3.7 volts were too weak to satisfy me. I need the vapor to hit my throat like a tangible thing- not a wisp of air. When I got to the 100 day mark, I bought myself the Infinty varaible volt as a present to myself. That vapes from 3 to7 volts and I like it in the 4.5 range best.

The 2nd bit of advice I could give you would be to try some nic juice that is orgasmic- like Kick Bass Vapors juice is. It's a decadent dessert in liquid nicotine form. They have a web site but take their orders here on the forum. I highly recommend their Caramel Cookie and Fiddle Faddle. They taste so good that you smile all the time:)

Thirdly, please buy some 18 mg juices and 1 bottle of 24mg for "911" situations. Use that 24mg one only when you are flipping out and panicking for a cig. Make that 911 juice some insane flavor like Cinnamon so it knocks you on your .... in every sense:) It took me about 4 hits off that higher mg juice to get myself calmed down and make me not reach for my husband's or co-workers cigs. After the first 3 months, those 911 situations stopped happening. No more waves of panic filling my chest.

With the right Ecig and the right juice, your transition will be easier going to Ecigs. I hope you find a way to make this work for you!

I want to let you know that those polls and stories depressed me too, I got my first pv on June 1st, and just this week have been totally smoke-free since Wednesday. It was a combination of cigs still being around, not being able to give up the first-thing-in-the-morning smoke, and not having the right juice. Things are falling into place now, (Backwoods Brew!)but I am still really, really struggling with that morning craving and maybe I always will. My mother has a friend who is a long-time ex smoker who declares that she cannot wait to be diagnosed with a terminal disease so she can take it back up again. I am glad you posted, it made me feel better.

For me the morning craving thing comes and goes. But it does go! And I'm two months in now and I still get it, still know what you mean. I'm just used to getting up now, and starting on my stronger - for me that would be 30 mg liquids - stuff and vaping quite a lot before the coffee is ready. One I get my first few sips of coffee in "the urge" just seems to go away.

But is that pv sitting right there, bed side in the morning? You betcha!

And it may sound a little weird, but in these last two months I've never looked at smoking analogs along the way as a failure. This is truly unlike any other method to quit. Look at it this way: Where would you be right now in context of your previous attempts with other methods? Already back to my PAD+ habit? Yup. Would I have been backsliding and using gum 80% of the time and only smoking 20% of the time? Well, it never did work that way. I would have been back to smoking full time.

I think I said it in an earlier post in this thread - I bought my cigarettes monthly, 4 cartons at a time. So I had a lot of analogs still on hand when I started vaping. It's been two months of allowing myself to smoke while vaping. And I didn't work very hard at it. I guess I really didn't have to because I like vaping so much. The desire to smoke and the frequency of the analogs just became less and less over these two months.

Yesterday was the first day I considered just throwing the rest of the butts away. Today - same thing. Or maybe I'll just leave those last six packs sit there because it honestly doesn't seem to matter now. I didn't have a single .... Saturday and don't want one right now.

Could you even imagine having cigarettes around and just leaving them sit there two months into your last quit smoking attempt with the conventional methods? I sure as hell couldn't have done it before vaping.

So, let's see... Smoking for 30 years. And this is where I'm at after two months of vaping. To me it's a success. But as we all know what the point of this thread is: No it didn't happen overnight for me. But I'm good with that.

That's my story, and I'm stuck with it. :p

You guys are my vaping heroes. I like to hear your stories. I'm curious to hear about anyone in here vaping 36mg or 48mg straight for hours. You know, like when parents would punish their kids with finishing the whole pack of analogs in one sitting.

Just hours straight? Heh, I vaped 36mg like a train going up a mountain so had to up that a bit higher. Oddly i used 24mg first thing in the morning, but 36-42 throughout the day for months. I got to the point that 36mg would work all day. When i found my juice consumption halved, i would drop my Nic 2mg and it would shoot right back up.

Currently at 22mg and holding. (extra fine adjustment was the second reason i went the DIY route)

I did quit right away, but my comment is not about me...its about my converts. There have been several that I have converted. And none of them did it the way I did. Each of them smoked while vaping. I've been analog free for just over 3 months and since then, 6 have converted. Only 1 of them are analog free. One went back to analogs and quit vaping. One it seems like she just added vaping to her habit, as she still smokes as much as vapes. The other 3 have reduced the amount of analogs, but still smoke.

I think I quit so easily because I wanted to quit, NOW! I quit cold turkey and day three was horrible. I bought a cheapie convenient store e-cig that looked identical to an analog. That got me by for weeks until I got a 510.

Stick with it, it will happen when you find the right combination.

Lots of vapers use 36mg for a big chunk of the day but far fewer vaping @ 48mg, I think. I'd like to see people stop worrying about the nicotine level when they're trying to quit.

Step 1 = Get off the analogs completely - if that's your goal.
Step 2 = Start adjusting nic levels downward - if you want to.

If you have to vape at 36mg to quit, just do it. Worry about nic levels later, after the monkey is off your back.

Quitting smoking is such an individual thing that there is no point in comparing your journey to mine or anyone else's...

I know that there are people that have quit smoking cold turkey, with patches, gum, Chantix, hypnotism, etc.

Those nethods didn't work for me but I don't worry about how they did it. My quitting includes vaping.

If you vape and quit smoking right away, vape and quit smoking later, vape and cut back on your smoking, vape and whatever.... it is your journey. And the fact that you have cut back so much on your smoking is to be applauded.

Enjoy it (as best you can) and don't worry about trying to be like anyone else.....
