Tank / Cartomizer / Clearomizer

So, I thought I understood the differences between these, but I am obviously missing something.

ViVi Nova / SplitFire / smok TiTan are all tanks.

Cartomizers aren't something I use, but did with the Blu (well, once they updated it a few years ago). These tend to use filler material instead of just a wicking system.

Clearomizer... not really sure. Assume these are some sort of hybrid that was given a new name.

Wouldn't the StarDust really be a tank? If not, why, and what other information am I missing?

Mind you, I've never used one of the systems that I've heard people say they needed to punch a hole in their cartomizer, and I'm sure there are some other types out there that I know nothing about. Educate me a bit... Hit me with some knowledge.

So the StarDust is a "tank", but more often called a Clearomizer due to the size and even though it has strayed away from the initial intent of that designation.

"Tank" is a generic term that has been hybridized to apply to "tank systems" as well. The ViVi and such are tank systems. Tank was intended as just a term for "that thing that holds the juice".

Cartomizers are actually just some form of cartridge system with an atomizer built in as well. Later on these systems had "tanks" squeezed around them, but they are not "tank systems" by nature. These are actually modded (or premodded) to use a tank since they would work without one as well. The term cartomizer is actually a misnomer at this point, because these systems don't really use "cartridges" any longer, but often metal cylinders that are the same size as cartridges used to be. That being said, the smaller 510 style (and others) battery units do in fact often get used with truly replaceable cartridges with build in atomizers (cartomizers).

Clearomizers were just clear versions of cartomizers, but are generally now small tank systems that tend to use wicks. They came after cartomizers and so adapted the naming convention to allow people to understand the intended use. These started getting away from the poly-fill methodology buy kept this designation anyway.

The addition of "...omizer" hearkens back to a time when atomizers and cartridges were separate (like the way the Blu was years ago) and then someone got the great idea to just make them one assembly.

Many of these terms get used interchangeably when they are, in fact, different, and often outdated based on actual function and design.

Cartimizers are the ones with a polyfil surrounding a coil in them... these are one piece units.

Cartridges are the ones that are becoming seen much less and are where there is just polyfil in them to contain the e-liquid and uses an atty which contains the coil that does the vaporizing. These are two piece units.

Clearo's are the ones that use wicks in them of some type, either of the bottom coil or top coil variety. Usually these only contain 1-1.5ml but I've also seen pretty large ones still called a clearo and are able to hold upwards of 3ml.

Tanks are the ones that contain much more liquid and can be a carto that is held in the tank, or a clearo in a tank as well as an all-in-one unit such as the Vivi Nova...

The terminology is often mixed by different people not to mention that items such as a Stardust can be called either a clearo or a tank since they fall on the edge of both descriptions.

That's odd VapingTurtle... Most of the Clearos I've seen have much less silicon in them. Also... Ohhh, that's a tank.

It is sad that you can ask this question and get so many views that are contradictory. Every marketing person should be forced to be partnered with a systems engineer of some sort.
