So far I've only tried Boge and Smokteck cartos. Well, really I've only tried Boge cartos, because as soon as I put a Smokteck in the tank it started leaking, so I never really got the chance to try it to see about flavor. I'll stick with Boge's 3.0 ohm single coils. That's what I use on ProVari.

Do you find you get better flavor and vapor from single coils than dual coils?

I've been using Smokteks dual coils in my Smoktek DCT tanks since I got my first one about 3 months ago. Its been rather hit and miss as far as satisfaction. Most faults that I have heard about these is that they are easy to flood, but if anything I've experienced the opposite. I have tried pre-punched (single, double, and triple drilled), and punched my own as well as slotted them.

Whichever method used, I try to start out conservatively if I punch/slot my own with a single opening. If I get dry hits (only with medium to thick juice) or hard draws, I'll add another, or a third one. It's been more of a learning experience trying to figure out what combination works best with each juice. The thinner juices like the fruit flavors are the easiest; they vape great with a single hole. Anything with a greater than 60/40 VG ratio requires a little fiddlin' with the number of holes.

After reading some contradictive information concerning single vs dual coil carto when using a 3.7v device, I decided to give the single coil cartos a run. I was going to use Boge XL's, but with the recent issue concerning their quality control I decided to order some single coils from Smokteck. They should be arriving in a couple of days.

Smoktech SINGLE COIL Carto Update:

Ok, I switched out several of the Smoktech Dual Coil cartos that I had been using in my tanks for the Smoktech Single Coil ones that just arrived. I have been using them for a couple of days now and I am more than pleased.

With the dual coils, they were pretty hit and miss as far as vapor production and flavor. Just inconsistant in a general way. That is why I started wondering if the single coils might work better. I had been reading some threads here of dual vs single coils. Theoretically, to get both dual coils to fire at their top efficiency you need to power them with at least 5v power. Although I have only begun to test the waters into 5v, most of my vaping is done @3.7v on a Silver Bullet or BB with 2.0 resistance DCT.

So, I got the single coil Smoktech in both 1 and 2 hole pre-punched 2.0 resistance from

Single Coil XL Tank Cartomizer for the SmokTank XL

I used the two hole cartos for my thicker juices and the single hole ones for thinner juices. I prefilled each carto with a toothpick in the air hole to keep juice out of there. Inserted my Slap-Yo-Mama tank filling tool on the end of the carto, lubed the carto and tool with a little juice, and inserted it halfway into the tank and filled the tank with juice almost to the top. Pushed the carto the rest of the way up, removed the filling tool and replaced with a drip tip.

All of the tanks are working perfectly. Never need to do a draw without power to wet the atty. No dry hits. Occasional pops and gurgling during inhales on a couple of the tanks, which I don't mind at all. Some of the others are pretty quiet.

Vapor production is more than satisfactory and seems to be more consistant than I had noted with the dual coils. These may be a "cooler" vape than the dual coils; I can't say I have a preference as far as cool vs warmer vapor. Flavor is very nice across the board.

Maybe these single coils really are better suited for 3.7v devices. I'm quite impressed and am questioning why Smoktech and other vendors just automatically add the dual coil cartos to all of their tanks upon purchase? Especially when I would imagine most customers are using a 3.7v battery.

Anyone else using the single coils on their 3.7v devices?

I have often wondered the same thing. I know they were all the rage when they first came out, but I think more and more people are finding they don't want them. Maybe they mass produced them, like they did with starter kits (where you have to buy attys/cartridges with starter kits) and the venders are just trying to get rid of what stock they have? I'd like to see them make it an option as to what ohm carto you want to buy with your tank, as well as whether it's single or dual coil.

I'm still hanging out with my dual coils in tanks, single hole 50/50 mix. I like the warm vape I get with them on any device I use. I use them on Provaris, SB's and off and on on a Helix. Helix generally wears a Kanger horizontal coil carto naked.

I did buy some single coils back a few months ago, stuck one in a tank and put it on a Provari and had to really crank up the Provari to get anything close to what I get with a dual coil. The rest of them are in my organizer.

There are quality control issues with Boge these days, and I'm finding some issues in Smoktech as well. Not the same issues as Boge, what I'm finding is the air holes on a lot of one batch I got from Smoktech are drilled way too low, in some cases into the threading.

LOL and I have one in a zip lock bag for when I need a good laugh. They punched it at the TOP of the carto not the bottom. I don't know what caused me to not see that as I filled it and put it into a tank. A day later it's not giving me much vapor I don't see bubbles, stuck my tank tool on it, shoved it down, voila.

I think the Chinese are trying to produce too many too fast and this causes the problems. Quality control is not something of as much value as producing shipping and collecting is, apparently.
