Questions are fine... don't sweat it!

I personally clean my tank when I have it apart for wick/coil changes... I rarely clean it between fillings though, as long as the juices are "Like" juices. I just fill my tank with the next tobacco flavor, or will fill a tank that just emptied from tobacco with another flavor and just let it take over.

II do clean it up though if the tank had something other than tobacco before filling with a tobacco flavor. I'm a tobacco flavor-chaser, so I'm weird that way! :D

It depends on both the liquid and the device. I use two main flavors, one of which requires a coil change (which is also when I do my cleaning) about every three or four days. With the other one I can, and do on occasion, go for a couple of weeks just refilling as needed.

In addition to those two I also use (or at least try out) another four or five flavors a week. I have enough clearomizers that I can use one per flavor. Since I don't go through a lot of any one of these additional flavors, I generally don't need to clean these until it's time to try something new. I make my own liquids, so there's quite a bit of variety going there.

I clean the tanks and change coils every time I change flavors, or every 3-4 days, whichever comes first.
The coils last much longer than that, so I put them in a small glass jar with vodka, and give them a shake every now and then. When they appear clean, I put them in an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner ($35 in case anyone thinks that's too expensive) with pure water, and then back into another glass jar. It's amazing how much gunk that comes off then. Finally, I rinse them and dry them for a couple of days, and they're about as good as new.
The mouth pieces (not really drip tips, because I don't drip) get cleaned every time I refill, and also get the ultrasonic treatment every now and then.

When I was using tanks, I normally did a good cleaning about every third refill. It really is no problem if you have more than one where you can fill and replace a new one while you wash, rinse in PGA (pure grain alcohol) and air dry over night. I personally just felt it was more sanitary. Just my 3¢ (inflation) Good luck to you and happy vaping.

Sorry for the newbe question but how frequently do you guys clean your tanks? Do you clean for performance reasons, flavor changes, both?

Welcome from someone just a few miles south of you! :)

The answer to your question is IN your question! Most of us clean our tanks/coils when we detect a noticeable loss of flavor and/or vapor production. Yes, YOU WILL know. The flavor can get weak, bad or even horrible as the gunk builds on your coil (imagine a dirty grill that's been cooked on too much without cleaning). This inhibits the coil's temp and therefore it's ability to heat/vaporize your juice properly and evenly...often producing hot-spots where it IS still able to heat. These hot-spots scorch your juice/wicks and your "hit" will taste like....well.....you ever burned a drinking straw...there ya go. NOT a particularly pleasant flavor profile.

Checkout any of your local vape shops to see of there's any with nice/helpful people in them to show you the basics....or just YouTube search....or just ask here! We all did! :)

Best of luck rbferg!

PGA pretty much IS Everclear. Yes that'll work...as will vodka! ;)

Do NOT use soapy water....you'll likely NEVER get it all out of your wicks and will taste terrible....yes I STILL remember what soap tastes like from almost 40 years ago!:grr::lol:

Others use dental cleaning tablets (very inexpensive) to soak their coils/tanks in and then rinse....you just have to find ones that aren't mint flavored.

I use vodka, or just REALLY hot water and then dry burn my coils. What kind of tank(s) are you using? You can search for videos on how to dry burn your coils...takes all of about 5 minutes and it'll perform like new! ;)

Awesome! Thanks for the info! I currently have a eGo One tank and a Kanger Subtank Nano. I think that I read somewhere that you should not use water with the Joyetech coils. Everclear or Vodka works for me! :toast:

Oh wow! You jumped right on in there, didn't ya!

Most start with simple ego devices and MUCH lesser tank systems than those!

On not sure about the ego ONE, but I'm SURE you can not dry burn the Kanger subtank coil....it's wicked with cotton and that'll scorch if you hit the fire button even for a second without juice in it.

I'd say soak them and rinse them and let the. Dry when they drop in performance or flavor goes south.
