I've been looking around at other juice venders. I haven't strayed from my two suppliers I really like, but just thought I look at the vast universe of e-juice. I noticed that some have warnings of certain flavors will crack plastic tanks. Since I am pretty much a noob, if it would crack a tank do I really want to vape this? WTH do they put in it that would do this? I have some pro tanks 2 that I use only for my fav flavors, and some eVods bc laying around for other flavors, but can anyone tell me why a juice meant to be vaped will kill a plastic tank? Sorry if this been posted somewhere else, I looked but couldn't anything.

It's just the polycarbonate many (most?) cartos are made with react badly to some liquids. Especially citrus. Cinnamon too by the way. I'm currently ruining a disposable CE4 with a new juice I have come to really like because I'm out of wicks for my metal Vivi Nova Mini. And, yeah, okay, I may be inhaling a bit of nasty from the essentially dissolving polycarbonate of the carto but I spent 30+ years inhaling tobacco smoke every day so how much risk is a day or two of poly something or other while the wicks get here?

See, that's the thing. Basically (and I could show you actually), some liquids actually dissolve the polycarbonate shell. The "plastic" part of the carto. This may or may not cause to inhale some amount of chemicals that are not meant for human consumption and, eventually, the tank part of the carto breaks. The liquids aren't bad for you, they're bad for the plastic and the chemicals that can come from the breakdown of the plastic could be bad for you.

Also, messy. As in the tank cracks and you get leaks.

But citrus is one of the ones that is really rough on polycarbonate and that's fruits. Which, as you know, are good for you. :)

(Not that vaping citrus gets you vitamins or anything but eating fruit is a healthy, good thing right?)

So citrus juices you mean? I have some fruit flavors from my other venders, and they say nothing about tank cracking. And I never had a eVod crack from it. I am still curious why some suppliers state this. And if it's to acidic to kill a plastic tank, it will be something I guess I wouldn't want to vape.

Not all vendors will warn you that their juice will crack tanks. As a general rule, if it has a citrus or cinnamon component to it, you should be cautious and watch for signs of tank destruction. I have switched to using Protank 2s almost exclusively so that I don't have to worry about it. As always though ...

As for vaping it, there are no worries. As someone already posted, it is a chemical reaction between the acidic content and the plastic tank. You shouldn't worry about it, especially if you are getting juice from a good vendor. Typically, a good juice vendor will use ONLY FDA/USDA approved ingredients, and still end up with tank cracking juices (that taste YUMMY) ... YMMV!

Thanks for the info everyone.. I do like fruit vapes ( I get from Alusion/ HHV) and yea I think I will stock up on some pro tank 2 minis also. I had no problems with my eVods (yet) but don't want vape pocket, where it looks like I pee'd myself if one fails. So now I guess I will try some samples from these places with this cleared up..
Thanks

And it's not all fruit liquids. I vape a lot of blueberry and banana without any problem. But have a cinnamon one that will eat a polycarbonate tank alive. I don't have a link to hand but I know this has been covered many times on ECF and there are lists of what to watch out for. Citrus, definitely. Cinnamon, oh yes. It's usually the more "acidic" type juices. When in doubt, you could do what I did. Get a cheap, disposable CE4 and try it out. That new cinnamon e-liquid I got yesterday? Didn't take long before the plastic turned "cloudy". Stuff was eating away at it. Love the juice but it's gonna have to wait for the wicks for the Vivi Nova to come in. :)

This whole issue stems from the fact that polycarbonate, the plastic used in many clearomizers and cartotanks, can react with certain flavoring agents. Upon contact, chemical changes occur to the plastic which weakens the chemical bonds of polycarbonate, resulting in the cracking, melting, or etching of the plastic.

This does not necessarily mean that vaping these flavors is harmful. Using cola to dissolve the crud build-up on your car's battery terminal is the same type of chemical reaction, and you likely have drank a cola drink at some point in your life, and probably still do.

Should your tank made of polycarbonate crack or etch from using one of these flavors, throw the entire device and the juice left in the tank away. I have an updated list of the flavors to avoid with polycarbonate tanks and recommended juice attachments you can use safely in the blog below.

Are the pyrex glass on pro tanks 2 and mini 2s ok for these types of juices? I like bottom coil clearos, and these plus evods have been all I have used. I will stick with tobacco flavors in my evods, or any advice on some bottom coil clearos with around 1.7 ml? Also, I am using a spinner vv's, does voltage speed up this reaction?
Thanks all for this info!
