Tankomizer help

Hello, Still don't have my 5 posts to post elsewhere...

I got a tank from Tanks - Mom and Pop Vapor Shop. I've gone through 5 carts that I'm sure I messed up punching my own holes. I'm ok with that loss as it's a learning process. Now, I've figured out that I was having tank pressure issues, I think.

I use a 1/4" saddle valve that I got from my local Home Depot
I mark where I want the hole so I don't get it below the o-ring
Put the cart in the valve
Tighten down well
Screw valve in til I feel pressure
Continue until I hear/feel a pop and then go 1/2 turn
Loosen, rotate, repeat for second hole

This didn't work and resulted in flooding that I couldn't control. I tried one hole the same way, same thing. I tried one hole with just popping the container with no extra twist and that seems to be the best result so far, though I don't get completely flooded, I still feel like there is just too much still going in as the hits are just way too strong for me and I can hear it sizzling pretty well...not gurgling though.

I found that I had to loosen the fill screw to allow some air in. With the screw alone, it would not seal at all and caused flooding. So I loosened the screw until I could see bubbles coming from the screw hole and it seems to be working but still seems to get too much liquid in.

Should I have to regulate the pressure in such a way?
Why am I still seeing flood-like symptoms?
How can I get more consistancy?

These are Boge 2.0 35mm and I'm going at 3.6-4.0v on a knock-off twist batt. I can't find any laser drilled in stock anywhere and I'm not signing up for some stupid app or program to let me know so they can spam me.

I like the tankomiser idea, but I'm very frustrated with it and I've wasted money and a ton of eliquid that I really can't afford right now.

Also, I'm considering making my own...anyone know where I can find a small pressure relief valve no bigger then the fill screw that supports .1 bar?

Help?

You don't want to go too deep so you damage the inner coil. I don't usually mess with the screw unless I look in and see that the carto is empty. That's the only time I've had flooding issues-when the screw is out too long.

Is your liquid thin? Do you fill the carto completely before putting it in the tank?

I have one very similiar to the one Mark made. You just have to make sure the screw is very sharp.

Do you have a dremel? You could make a small slit using a dremel. (This is until you get an easier to use punch or some laser punched cartos).

Hi Vagabond.

I'm not sure about your flooding issue.

No flooding with other tanks/same methods?
How are you priming the cartomizer?
What kind of draw are you taking? I've never flooded a carto in a tank, but my one friend (new, primarily using clearomizers) flooded three to the point of juice dripping down the mod. After 3 tries I cut him off and told him he didn't need to "suck a golf ball through a garden hose".

Laser Punched Boge In stock. Single 2.5mm hole. I was punching my own but prefer these as some tanks were finicky with the warping caused by punching.

For now- just so you can keep vaping, I'd make one hole. Not super deep. Once you see a carto that's punched with a laser, you'll see the hole is just bigger than a pin ...... Fill the carto, put it in the tank. If it starts to taste dry, don't mess with the screw. Take the drip tip off and top off a bit that way. At least you won't get flooding.

I've gone as shallow as my punch will allow.
My liquid is 70/30 or 80/20 PG/VG...I've found I don't much care for VG
I do have a dremel...but I'm concerned of ruining more carts if I can't get the hole right with a punch, I highly doubt I'll get it with a dremel. May be worth trying.

I only have the one tank and 2 Vivi Novas, So can't comment on other tanks.
I tried a couple ways...first I tried using one of the end caps, fill with a bit of liquid, ten shove the cart batt-end down into it. Then blow the excess out. I tried sticking a surynge in and moving it around while adding, then finally I just used the drip-around-the-top method, which is what finally worked.
I tend to take lighter draws. When I was on analogs, I would take the smoke into my mouth first, then inhale...can't really do that effectively with this set up I noticed, so I just take slower longer draws. No Hoover-style here. :)

I guess I'll go with those lazer punched and get it over with. It may now that my hole is too small and won't draw juice in properly with the screw tightened.

First fill of the carto whether using with a tank or on its own is VERY important. I suspect the carto filler is dry at the bottom and sucking in juice very quickly thus resulting in negative tank pressure which in turn can cause either dry hits or flooding. I've used the Mom and Pop Tanks with great success- juice 60/ 40 to 80/ 20 PG/VG. Punched my own tanks with a single 2.5 mm hole. If your carto isn't properly filled to begin with you are almost guaranteed to have issues with or without a tank.
As for being "spammed" by newsletters it's your choice but I've jumped on some amazing deals because of those newsletters. One example was ST 1.7 XL single coil cartos...$3.50 for a 5 Pack. Bought 115 Packs.

As long as you are waiting on new cartos, play around with priming some. It could be that the carto filler isn't saturated.

Some things to try:
  • When injecting into the filler, use a toothpick to plug the center hole so juice gets in the filler and doesn't just drain through.
  • After injecting, let it sit in a condom for 20 minutes or so.
  • One last thing I do (which I saw in some priming videos) is to put the carto in the tank, partially fill the tank, tighten your fill screw, put on a drip tip, plug the bottom of the battery connection with your finger, and suck. This will draw juice from the tank into the carto through your punched hole. It doesn't take a lot of sucking. I do like 5 5-second sucks - eventually you kind of taste/feel the juice (not sucking liquid, just the "juice vapor") and can stop. Then I'll blow from the drip-tip to remove the "loose juice". Sometimes I maybe leave the fill screw out as this allows better airflow for sucking.

Happy priming. :)

(maybe this isn't your issue at all - but might be worth a try)

There is no one way that is "the best" way when it comes to cartotanks. There are just to many vapors who are successfully using them and nearly everyone is doing something different. So, be persistant and be willing to experiment, eventually you will find what works best for you. Read and watch what others are doing, and perhaps incorporate some of their techniques into yours.

I'm starting to think that what cartomizers that you use makes a big difference in your results as an individual vapor. Boge cartomizers have a denser filler, which means that they are more difficult to load with juice, but they will be less likely to flood. This can also lead to wicking issues leading to dry hits or burnt taste. Smoktech cartomizers are less dense, easier to load with juice, but may be easier to flood.

I always recommend new tank users to start off using the laser-drilled cartomizers instead of punching their own holes. Punching your own holes just adds to the human error factor that a beginner doesn't need to deal with at first.

I also believe that tool-punched carto's inevitably deform the carto's shape from round to oval. This can cause unnecessary wear and tear to the rubber o-rings in the tank's end caps. It is these o-rings that keep a tank from leaking.

Slotted carto's are potentially even worse than the tool-punched carto's. Slotting can leave sharp edges that can cut the o-rings. In my mind, the laser-drilled carto's have none of these issues and wick just as well as the other two methods.

I've collected a lot of information on cartotanks and cartomizers that can be found in my blog. I invite anyone interested to read the information that I have collected and my experiences that are in my articles. You can access these by clicking on the link under my avatar, and once on the blog page, click on the article title that you wish to read.

There is an article in particular that has a list of at least a dozen vendors that sell pre-punched (laser-drilled) cartomizers and links to their website.
