Mine does that also but I think it is due to the fact that I use a lot of lotion. Plus the fact that my body chemistry is such that I tend to tarnish even my high end jewelry.

I clean my GGTS every 2 weeks with NEVR-DULL and wipe it down daily with a silver polishing cloth or Cape Cod Polishing Cloths.

This takes care of the problem.

This is what I use for quick (inbetween polishing's) clean up. I found these at the local Drug Emporium store for $3.51 a pack. 16 cloths per pack. The package is a resealable container too. You can reuse these sheets more than once if you choose to do so. Wipe the GG down with them and buff off off with a clean towel or rag. Takes 3 minutes tops. They work absolutly fantastic. Mr Metal wipes. Ya might give them a try. Sweat(salt) & hand oils will tarnish almost any highly polised metal rather quickly.

I have only had my GG a few days and the aluminum has already had some tarnishing. Is this normal. I have the aluminum with brass.

I cleaned it with brasso and it removes the tarnish but within an hour or so it is has tarnish again.

Martha,
How ya doing? Sorry to hear bout your tarnish issue.....It happens to some people more then others. I think it has something to do with the oil on your skin, or lotion, etc. Because it doesnt happen to all...It does happen to me, but it takes some time....All metal tarnish...So dont be too concerned.

What I use because its easy to use and cleans tarnish right off and it is HIGHLY recommended by many people here on the GG sub-forum is Cape Cod Metal Cleaner ....It comes in a tin tub. You can find it online everywhere or at your local Ace Hardware.

I do daily wipe downs and clean it often and it seems to help a lot.....If ya let it go for a while it just gets worse. I hope ya enjoy your GG and let us know if there is anything else we can help with......

I'm the same way Martha.
I polish mine and I'm almost afraid to touch it, especially the brass it just goes right back to tarnished hehe.

I get OCD with my polishing too... so it drives me crazy. But I guess it keeps me from getting into trouble.

I don't know if its myth or some chemical thing, but if I polish mine and leave it for a day (good luck with that) then I seem to have more time between polishings.

What REALLY irritates me is when I get noalox on my polishing cloth without knowing.

UGH

O MY GOD! I hate that when I get noalox on my polishing cloth. That is so frustrating.

But yea, I have been using a jewelery polishing cloth I got at walmart for about 5 bucks for that daily wipe down and then when I want to give it a real shine and sparkle again I use the cape cod cleaning cloths. Boy o Boy do they work awesome! Wipe it on and then get a clean cloth and wipe it down. Takes off the worst tarnish easily. Well sometimes you might have to buff it a little.

Hey guys,

Got my GGTS last week and noticed it was starting to tarnish pretty bad. I asked my friend, who polishes EVERYTHING on his bikes and cars, what would be the best thing to use. He happened to have it with him in his trunk! In about ten seconds my GGTS looked BETTER than new, the button even shines like a mirror! Anyway I picked some up at pep-boys, it's called "Mother's Billet cleaner" it was $12.99. It even has an unconditional guarantee to be the best metal cleaner you have ever used, and I believe it! Made to work on aluminum and copper. Anyone who picks it up let me know how amazed you are!

I use Autosol that is better than the cape cod but I want to try this too. Did you cleaned the threads too Dee?

No. I had handed my GGTS to him assembled and literally ten seconds and he handed it back and the whole thing shines like a mirror! I should take it apart and clean the threads, button contact and positive contact, right?

Ok..here's a wierd one...All my life the oils in my skin literally can eat metal that stays in contact with my skin..including surgical stainless steel(on back of Seiko watch) and titanium(on my glasses frames). The only metals that survive have been copper, gold or silver. Gold I'm fine with no tarnish at all..but then I don't think gold tarnishes anyway.

However I have this bizarre relationship with silver and copper. If I first wear silver or copper it immediately tarnishes black or green/brown on the copper. Then after about 3-4 days it will become shiny and polished again without any buffing whatsoever. I'm currently experiencing the same thing with my copper FogLog. It has become dull and brownish everywhere like all old copper, except where my hand grips it. There it is shiny like new copper..to the point you can see my individual finger placement. Also the sheet metal screws I used in making it have turned dark grey.

I doubt I'll polish the FogLog cause I use it mostly when outside doing rough stuff like mowing, gardening, working in the shop...it sees a lot of sweat and abuse. My question is am I gonna be a really "bad" candidate for a GGTS if my skin naturally does these wierd things...I don't want to carry around a pitted and stained GGTS nor do I want to have to pack billet cream and a rag in my e-cig kit...LOL! Just wondering...

and negative too Dee. I asked about threads because they are a critical point for letting current flow easy. The threads that need more cleaning are the internal ones on the big GG piece that has the engraving on it

Same happens to me wolf. My skin eats metals. The back cap of my vogue watche was dead in less than a year only!!!

This will happen to GG too but with a weekly clean will stay shiny for ever. Metals are metals, they need some care

I took 1500 wet sand to all my brass parts and my contact parts and my GG works even better now, hitting the contacts has really made a nice difference and all my Brass shines as if its jewelry now

clean the contacts with autosol because it works exellent with black marks too that current leaves;)

Good to know Imeo! I do also have a professional buffing wheel for my bench grinder with the proper rouges. I've been polishing sterling jewelry for years so I figure once or twice a year to give it a really nice finish would do in between buffs with cloth.

By the way..I attribute most of the acids in my skin to the amount of coffee I drink and jalepenos I eat...LOL!

ok, got it... just polished everything, even negative threads. It came out amazing. i rubbed the mother's on the positive contact for two seconds and it looks like a mirror! Should I sand it or leave it? Let me know if you ever use Mother's Billet Metal Polish, I'd like to see which you think is better
