Taste? Or smell?

I and my friend have been having a discussion and we can't seem to agree. When you vape, do you smell or do you taste the flavors? I know it's a combination, but if you had to pick one, which would it be?

For example, I think you could smell sizzling bacon without tasting it. Do you think it's the same with vaping?

Or would you say is it like yogurt or soft drinks, which you can taste but not smell?

It is both but if there was a pick of one or the other, it is taste. They don't put Sckents in the juice, they put flavoring..........but back to my original point, that is why people fall out of love with juice they liked in the beginning. Once your taste buds and sense of smell come back, the two create a different experience.

The smell of your food enhances or affects how it tastes to you as well.

Smells have alot to do with how things taste.

I did an experiment in Highschool where a person was blindfolded and you had to give them something to smell and then give them something to taste (at the same time), without them knowing what the 2 things are.

Non the less I gave my partner a chocolate cup cake to taste and a bottle of doe urine to smell (Hehe)

He said it made the chocolate cupcake taste gross haha

I gave a cup of wasabi peas to my other friend with the doe urine and he gagged pretty bad lol

Ha - this reminds me of my friend who has been vaping since Nov after smoking for 20 years. She said when I saw her last that now that she can actually taste it, she no longer likes eating guacamole! She's always loved guacamole!

Back on topic though, it's gotta be taste, although afterthe exhale you can get a different flavour note coming through.

Well smell and taste are intimately entwined. I would say its probably a good bet that both odorants and tastants are present. If you are near someone who is vaping you can most always clearly smell the vapor quite distinctly. Bakery, Blueberry, Watermelon ETC. When vaping you can taste the flavor on the inhale and smell it on the exhale if you are a nose exhaler (I am for example) and the inhale and exhale are different.

I think this may be kind of a "chicken or the egg" debate....

It is smell. There are only four (arguably five or six, if you count umami and metallic) tastes: sweet, salty, bitter and sour. The PG provides sweetness. The flavors are really aromatics. Pinch your nose and take a vape. You will get a little sweetness, but nothing of the aromas. Once your nose is unpinched, then you will get the flavors.
