(I thought there was a DIY discussion section but I'm not finding it.)

How are other DIY-ers taste testing experimental recipes? Empty and clean the device, then fill it and have to use the whole tank for a couple of tastes? Then pour it back into the original bottle you mixed it in and do what with the coil and cotton, which are saturated with the recipe? There must be a better way? No?

Don't know what a dripper rda is. You toss the wick and coil after each test?

Just the wick, maybe rinse and dry the coil. My only issue with using an RDA is while it really is the only viable method of testing recipes while mixing, it might still not be all that accurate. Some juices take some time to "stabilize", sometimes overnight to evaporate any alcohol used in some flavorings, and will not reproduce the taste in your usual RTA/tank setups (unless you're a full time dripper, in which case it's dead on). I'd hate to toss something just on the basis of an early taste test, unless it's just plain disgusting, as those are never salvageable no matter how long you air, steep and try to justify.

Get an RDA, do a build with a thicker gauge wire like 24g KA1 so it won't bend as much when changing cotton (makes it faster and easier to rewick)..

Yes you can change the cotton. I'd recommend something with a Velocity style deck if you're new to building..

Here's a decent one for flavor testing... If you do order from Fasttech make sure to use "e-packet" as your shipping method.

I do Bill's 100DTT and sometimes use a cheap little RDA, like an IGO-L or similar, and just change the wick for each new recipe sample I'm testing. Or most often...I use an old-school JoyeTech 510 shorty Atomizer or a JoyeTech eGo Mega Cone Shaped Atomizer. Drip a few drops onto the mesh covered atty tip and take a few puffs. Don't need to do anything before making adjustments to the sample and dripping a few more drops to taste test again. Works for me just fine!

Having been burned in the past, I only test juices with the device I will be using day to day, under typical conditions.

The mix needs to taste right in the RDA, the SpheroidV4, the CalixV3 and in TilemahosV1/Springo.

I may need to adjust wattage or temperature to get the best from the build/juice.

For me; All harder to do on a low watt/limited test rig.

Some juices will favor certain devices and certain builds; enjoy the journey.

Cheers

You can always build a coil and install it but not wick it. You can just drop on the coil and get the flavor of the vape that way since you will be adding more flavor then trying it again. You can just burn the coil after one test then try it again if you have added something to the juice.

I'm a firm believer in testing recipes on devices similar to what you'll be vaping on. For me, it's squonking atomizers. Early on in my mixing, I used to test recipes in bridgeless atomizers, only to find that they tasted quite different in an RDA or Genisis Tank. When I went from Genesis tanks to squonking attys, a few years ago, I found that I had to further alter my recipes. I don't vape commercial juice, but of the ones I've tried, at vape meets and such, I've found that most have too much flavor for me. Since using my squonker set ups, I've found that I can do with considerably less flavor percentage.

Since I vape an RDA anyway, I just drip a freeform flavor adventure from flavor to flavor, but this of course leads you to flavors that work best like that -- if a preset flavor combination can even match some the flavors that happen dynamically. It's not even chaos anymore, it's a sort of system of oscillating between a very light tobacco juice that brings out the residual notes and guest flavors such as custards and fruits. Of course you could also just drip unflavored a bit between things you try. If you're patient enough it's revealing enough.
