A very long time ago some of my work involved me being present at the Crown Court. There was a chap I bumped into frequently. He had the name of a local town tattooed on his forehead. As I say, we met often.

I have no probs with tats as a form of self-expression. Fine - ink it up! But do keep in mind that there are times when an above-the-collar tat can put you in deep stuff. Deep.

Otherwise enjoy - and "Blackie, The Electric Rembrandt" is a great poem! :)

Just because someone has tattoos doesn't mean you can make generalizations about them. This guy might be a camp counselor or Head of Human Resources for a Fortune 50 company. The only thing we know for sure is he likes listening to his coffee and waving through his ear.

Imagine a police officer, banker or surgeon all with visible sleeves and/or facial piercings or gauges. As far as the police officers goes, it would be even more dangerous because people would question their authority and even doubt if they were a police officer to begin with. .....potentially ignoring orders that were in their best interest to follow in time of crisis.

you mean like this officer ... looks all cop to me.

I don't think that anyone is making generalisations about tats on this thread. It's just helpful to remember that, unlike making a statement with jewellery or make-up, tats are quite hard to get rid of. I'm all for freedom of expression - but tats are a kind of permanent statement that you can't un-Google. Just my own tuppence. :)

Um.... you were:

That's not a generalisation. It often happens that people can get into trouble with this stuff. Not everyone - but people should be aware that they are more "noticeable" with an identifying mark.

I'm all for art - body art is cool - but it's just fair to mention that anything that makes you stand out from the crowd can sometimes get you unwelcome attention.

Oh, all right, I'm a dull old bloke who thinks that tats are just for pirates and bikers...:)

My back piece, and half sleeve don't detract from me being a damn good nurse, but I was also cognizant of placement when I got them, so they wouldn't be seen by my patients. When I'm not at work, however....all bets are off!

Back piece is my avi...

Oh . . . My!

No, I would bet the house that no Fortune 50 HHR is quite so . . . physically distinguished . . .

(walks away muttering to self -- Why? Why?)

Well, i have two scars over both knees. One of them is a patella tendon transfer, and the other is a lateral release and stuff. This kind of work leaves scars. So - tattoos. You get scarred because you want to. OK - now you are star-like.(Please see earlier reference to a really good poem). If it works for you then fine. :)

authorities also treat scars as identifying marks ... they catalogue them just as they do tats.

Hey! I'm a biker and I don't have(or want) any tattoos....! (I'm also a vaper without tattoos, obviously!) :)

(1) You vape
(2) You bike
(3) No tats

Very cool! The biggest bike I ever rode was a step-through honda 90 (with push-button ignition - yeah!). Sadly after having it for a few months I screwed my leg up and had to sell it. I miss it!

I know it doesn't qualify as a biker-bike but at least it had a four stroke engine. Damn, I miss it! :)

I agree that tattoos are more socially acceptable these days. Even still, I know people have given me some glances and probably thought "oooo, he must (be a drug user, have been in prison, have had a rough childhood, etc.)" And I don't fit ANY of those lol. If others knew my personality, you would think I would NEVER get any kind of tattoo, but I have a lot of them XD

Ya I pretty much keep em covered under my little suits.

Is it me or do most vapers i see have tattoos, ill bet every vaper has at least one,

Don't have any , I had some interest of getting 1 few years back but decided not to go through with this eventually .
I think they are nice but I would hate go for a repaint every time I get a scratch or when the color starts to fade (I saw that even though tattoos are permanent , it has to be maintained every once in a while ) .

Willy,

I have to ask, why brand yourself forever with the logo of Rolling Stone magazine? Why not Popular Mechanics, Skymall or Good Housekeeping?

avatar160775_7.gif

It is part of a Rock and Roll sleeve ... If you don't see the difference between an iconic music mag header as a tattoo and liken it to the good housekeeping magazine header ... It is way beyond your grasp.
