TC and Tanks... What are you using?

Using rounded whole numbers to simplify the temp coefficient (TCR):

Ni200 has a TCR of 6
Titanium has a TCR of 4
316SS has a TCR of 1

That's a tremendous difference. You're off by at least two hundred degrees, and the curve is different as well.

What's saving you is that the SS Triton heads wick very well and flow a lot of air, since they are designed to handle a fair amount of power in "normal mode".

To technical for me but numbers look bigger of indeed, doesnt feel that way to, weird that the M class didnt give a warm vape at 350 then or do you need set SS higher in temp rather then lower? As with TI you needed to set it lower, that ran hotter then ur NI setting on the SX.
How about the long legs, in the stock head they long to?, i havent cracked one open yet?

Just popped it back on my SX with the 0.4 head. Sitting at 390F - 40J now, this feels about the same as 420F - 45 watt on my opus with 316L TCR. Weird if this is 200 degrees of on the SX that would mean my SX is firing this now @ 590F, that would set my head in fire or i would atleast feel a much hotter vape from the same atty?
Dont have a dna40 to test on =/

Naw, 500+ won't fry your head, IF your wick is wet. VG has a boiling point north of 500F, for instance. That magic 420F number everyone quotes? That's for dry cotton. Even a little bit of moisture in the cotton will prevent it from burning at temps quite a bit above 420F.

The only tank I always use with TC is my Subtank Mini, as I'm a MTL inhaler, I find the Subtank to work only with TC or it will overheat due to low air intake

Is TC really worth using in a tank?
I mean I use a nickel build in the Doge RDA and indeed I don't get a dry hit in TC mode..
But why would I want to run TC with a tank when I can see when I need to refill it?
I've tried the Vapor shark nickel coils in the Atlantis and wasn't impressed.. I get a thicker vape using the stock coils...
I've got the Maganus, Starre, Arctic and Herkakes all running good with the stock coils...I just don't see the added expense of using special coils for TC when performance dosent measure up.
Was looking at ordering the Triton but still on the fence about it..just sayin

The TC, at least with the SX350J, isn't used only for dry hit protection. You can vape without ever go over a set temperature that is what I use it for

That makes sense I supposed but if my vape seems too hot I simply bump the watts down a bit...

With meti on that one, i dont use anything else then tanks, only dripper i use is bottomfed.
Personaly love TC on a tank, i dont understand people that say TC is only good for drippers (and alot say that).
Nice vapes on your set temp is imho great, a tank just on wattage will increase in heat gradualy you dont got that with TC.
Personaly i never cared about a dryhit, last time i had one was like when i started vaping, thats not why i got in to TC vaping.
I doubt you realy use TC to not get a dryhit on your drippers, you feel that comming without TC to with how we vape these days?
If you dont like or feel a difference in a TC/Not TC vape then maybe a tank will have no use for you on TC.

TC is for much more than simply dry hit protection.

There is also burnt juice protection, burnt wick protection, and most important... TC can prevent the formation of formaldehyde/acetaldehyde which happens when VG is heated too much. Formaldehyde and acetaldehyde are carcinogens which can cause cancer. By limiting the temperature below the point where the chemical conversion occurs you are preventing these toxins from being created.

And then there is another aspect. TC coils tend to last longer and deliver better flavor longer than kanthal coils. Kanthal coils get gunked up faster which degrades their performance and mutes the flavor faster.

I've got the Starre with TC coils and the performance EXCEEDS the kanthal coils for that tank. To me the flavor is cleaner and more pronounced, and the coils last longer. There is no degradation in the flavor nor vapor production.

I've also got a Nautilus that I use TC coils in and have removed the airflow control ring which lets me take straight lung hits from it. I can take a 7 second lung hit draw from that tank which would normally produces a really nasty burnt hit if it was kanthal.

Agreed..Apparently TC in a Tank is not for me...I do use TC with a nickel build in the little Doge RDA on the compact IPVD2... Seems good so far..
TC is relatively new to me still..
But as I learn more about it my opinion about using it in tanks might change..but I doubt it...lol

Switched from my Subtank mini to my Lemo 2 & it's way better! I'm running a 9 wrap ni200 3mm coil at .16 ohm's. 480 degrees at 40 watts.

I switched to TC Atlantis coils. Never going back. I had a week where I seitched back because the Vape shop handed me the wrong coils. Terrible week. I switched through all my coils thinking they were bad. Switched back to TC and getting a great vape.

Stocked up on TC coils.

Local stock status has been the only disadvantage for me.
