At least for the DNA40, even when watts are set to 14.5W the mod will apply 32.9W to the coil.
What does yours do if the watts are set low?

On my AF pico...it NEVER reaches temperature.
Cheers

The device outputs what I set it to output. Like it is designed to do. (pre-heat disabled)

What if its less than required to heat the coil? Its just ignored?

If you set a TC device to a wattage lower than that required to reach the temperature you selected, the wattage selected will not be exceeded regardless of the temp you set. If you set a wattage higher than needed to reach and maintain the temperature, the mod will reduce the wattage delivered to maintain that temperature set point you specified.

How does it distinguish between a good wick and one that it toio tight/loose etc? Which mods do this btw?

It doesnt care about the quality of the wick in that regard. It only reads a runaway rise in resistance as a dry coil. If the wick is too tight or too loose it will not feed liquid properly and result in a dry coil. In my experience all of the Yihi boards do this as well as the DNA 75 and 200 (could be more DNA boards but I only have the 2). My Innokin CF4 TC100 wont fire when the coil is dry as well. I have a number of Joyetech and Wismec mods that sometimes work this way but are not consistant.
