Firstly i apologize for bringing this up again, or if this question has already been answered.
This just came to me, i remember the discussions regarding VG decomposing into acrolein at around 280 degrees celsius. My vtc goes to 310 degrees in TC. Are we talking about the same temperature in both cases, or is the TC temperature on my mod referring to a different temperature than the one my VG reaches? Or should i not go above 275 degrees if i want to be sure i'm not creating any nasties?

I'm not sure really although if that is the case I think I would stick to 265c so to allow for inaccuracies. I don't do tc and I don't think I will. It's supposed to prevent dry hits but from what I've read on the forum doesn't always do that and still manages to overheat. I think it's a load of rubbish and dangerous. Just my opinion though. And a few others. Kanthal works really well and if it ain't broken don't fix it.

Thing is, i can reach that temperature in VW very easily with any wire, this is just a warm vape, not close to hot. TC has been working very nicely for me, haven't had a dry hit when i forgot to drip and my cotton under the coil looks like new. I was just wondering whether the 300 on the device really means the coil is heating the liquid to 300 degrees, or what does it mean, so i could act accordingly.

From what I understand, it takes a bit of time to fully reach the maximum degrees and when your device says "High temp protect," sometimes it means that the coil is heating up very fast, but still didn't max yet.

However, the real question is what temperature should you be using. I have an iStick TC40w and have it set to 600f only because the ramp up time on the coil. Most juice, even max VG juice shouldn't need anything about 450f to get a good vape generally. Maybe your wicking isn't correct or numerous other factors. All I know is, I was using a dual 30 gauge Ni200 build 4.5 wraps and the vapor production was sick, and I was only setting my temperature to 300 degrees fahrenheit.

I can adjust wattage (or joules on other mods) to modify the ramp time. I'm not saying my vapor production is unsatisfactory or anything, i'm getting a good vape at 260, i am simply wondering whether if i set my device to 300 celsius in TC mode, will the VG break down into acrolein or not, that is, if i set it to 300 does that mean my liquid is vaporized at 300, which would potentially be unsafe..

I'm left to assume if you set it to 310 (590f) then it will theoretically reach that temp at some but it won't take long to torch the cotton, and the temp control will essentially be doing nothing (since it will probably never throttle down wattage).

Also keep in mind that acrolein is the same as the smoke that comes off a pan of burning cooking oil, if your vape was producing large quantities of acrolein you would know it, and almost certainly wouldn't be able to inhale it.

Apparently, cotton will burn at 250 degrees celsius. As i have been trying out temperatures around 280 the entire day, and my cotton under the coil is like new, i'm gonna assume that it hasn't reached that temperature. So my question remains, what IS at 280-300?

Dry cotton burns at 250^C, wet cotton probably doesn't burn well at all... I'm thinking the temp setting is for the coil, not the resulting temp of the vape.

Yeah i was thinking more of singe marks, of which i've found none. I'm gonna have to find an IR sensor and see this for myself, it's bugging me :D
