Hey everybody! I thought it'd be neat if we had a team for WhatPulse, so I decided to go ahead and make one! If you know what you're doing already, just look up TeamECF under MyWhatpulse > Teams, and join up! No password required!
If you don't know what WhatPulse is, here we go:
WhatPulse is a small application that measures your keyboard/mouse usage, downloads and uploads, as well as your computer's uptime. It sends these statistics to WhatPulse.org, and you can use these stats to analyze your computing life, compete against or with your friends, and compare your statistics to other people!

Getting started is pretty simple. You just need to make an account, download the application (very small and lightweight), run it, and you're ready to start pulsing. Next step is to go to the WhatPulse website and login (if you haven't already), click on "My WhatPulse" and then "Teams" in the dropdown. Next, click "Join a team" and search for "TeamECF" -- hit join! That's it!
You'll be asked to give your computer a name when you first download the application. This is just so that you can identify your different machines, and look at the statistics individually. For example, my work computer has FAR more keystrokes than my home computer. My home computer has WAY more clicks than my work computer. What does this mean? I dunno, but it's cool to know!
Here are some common questions I get when I tell people about WhatPulse:
1. Is WhatPulse spyware/a trojan/a keylogger? Who can see my statistics, keystrokes, etc..?
Nope. WhatPulse is not interested in what you're typing, just the amount that you're typing/clicking. They are VERY strict about not selling these statistics in any way/shape/form. You won't be put on a list or marketed to because of your typing habits. There's no analyzing, just counting. Your profile can be public, but it also can be private. The difference is just a matter of whether or not strangers can see your keycounts/click counts.
2. What is "pulsing"? Does it hurt?
Pulsing is just the fancy word for "uploading your statistics". It's a good idea to pulse (or set up auto-pulsing) every now and then, because occasionally (if your computer crashes) you might lose some unpulsed clicks/keystrokes. If you don't have an internet connection, you won't be able to pulse (but WhatPulse will go on recording keystrokes all the same). It takes 2 clicks, and less than a second, and your newly pulsed stats are saved to your account.
3. Will it slow down my Internet or other applications?
This one's a "maybe" leaning on "no". A few years ago Counter-Strike had some problems with WhatPulse, but that has since been fixed. WhatPulse is an extremely lightweight program, and it won't use a whole lot of CPU, memory, or network data. Pulsing takes a second and is super quick.
So what're you waiting for? You type and click [probably] every day, why not record how much you're typing and clicking?
