I recently saw a televised commercial for a brand of e-cigs. The company wa one I've never heard of. Most likely only sold in gas stations and smoke shops. One of the MANY starter kits that companies are pumping out. At first I was happy to see the promotion. Until they showed a lab with supposed scientists looking in microscopes (what are they even looking at?!?). Meanwhile the voice is assuring consumers that these e-cigs are made, after extensive research, by professionals that have been in the tobacco industry for a long time. WHAT.!?! Personally I think if vapes were never called e-cigs, that alone would stop many people from associating them with tobacco cigs. This commercial made it seem like their product is exactly like a reg cig, but electronic. Whatever that means. I have a feeling it will do more harm than good. Anyone else see this commercial? I live in Los Angeles, but the commercial appeared to be a national one.

It's one route to successful marketing, given that the target market are cigarette smokers who want a cheaper/safer/less restricted way to keep smoking.

A cigarette firm can hardly be expected to avoid pushing their ecig product with messages like, "It's smoking without the smoke" and, "We are the experts and so you can be confident that our Whizzo Ecig is the best", or whatever.

Others will probably try the same method, so maybe that is what you're seeing.

Yep I've seen it multiple times it's just BT trying to jump on the band wagon (again) and hopefully try to make money off the vaping community but that commercial might only appeal to smokers trying to quit who don't have any knowledge of useful GOOD PVs that actually work. Plus I've heard those ones taste like burnt hair, burnt plastic, and the worse burnt cabbage and also horrifying TH. Plus you can't tamper with them (ie change flavors etc.) Good luck BT!

I appreciate all the response. But, let me clarify....the thing that bothered me most was the intention of the company to associate the vape kits to cigarettes. What does it matter if they've been researching tobacco for years. Tobacco?!? The word should NEVER be mentioned in a promotion for an e-cig, or vape (the term I prefer). It should only be mentioned to state that it is not a tobacco product. Does anyone share my sentiments about it?

I really don't care who they are appealing to. Any vape company purposely associating with tobacco is against our cause. Call me paranoid, but it seems possible this company is either dumb as ....e or funded by BT.

It's really no different than a car manufacturer claiming that their model xyz will magically grant you freedom.

This is exactly the problem tho. The Vaping industry is a movement. A movement for our lives and against BT. Any company interested in being involved should have the decency to help the cause. And definitely not hurt it. Which is what this commercial is doing.
