One of the things we need to do is to put a human face on all the news about "e-cigarettes". Mostly what people are reading or hearing are quotes by "health experts" and "spokespersons" The public needs to understand that there are real people using this who are being helped. And that these people stand to be hurt if prejudice and ignorance force them off the market.

In the story on UPI.com, "Former Smoker: E-cigs saving my life," Bonnie Martin tells her personal story. There is already a Digg created for this. My suggestion is that as many of you as possible who have seen health improvements as a result of using the products Digg the story and leave a comment, telling your story.

Former Smoker: E-cigs saving my life

I found e-cigarettes roughly three months ago and have never looked back. A smoker for 26 years, I thought I'd never be free of tobacco. And this isn't for a lack of trying, I've been trying to quit tobacco for years. I've used just about every cessation method out there: gum leaves me with bad withdrawls, patches are the same, the lozenge gave me a rapid heartbeat, wellbutrine didn't work, I won't use Chantix due to the suicide risk, and the nicotine inhaler was way too expensive.

I found out about the e-cigarette in an article about Leonardo DeCapprio. It mentioned he used e-cigarettes and it was like a light went off in my head. I googled "e-cigarette" and was soon awash in information. It didn't take but fifteen minutes of research to decide to try out this new device. I placed my order for the brand "SS Choice No. 7" [then branded as SS Choice No. 9]. It arrived within a week and I started vaping right away! There have been a few occasions where I've gone back to tobacco cigarettes. In fact, I'm smoking my Kools as I type this letter as my atomizer went dark five days ago and I am waiting on a replacement.

I credit the e-cigarette for breaking me free of tobacco. When I'm using my e-cig [vaping] I breathe easy, I get restful sleep and I don't smell of tobacco. I can enjoy my life without interruption by the need to light up a tobacco cigarette. I don't have the blood pressure issues that tobacco gave me. And more importantly, my wife approves of and is happy that I found a good alternative to tobacco. If I lose this due to an ignorant community and a Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt campaign by Big Tobacco and Big Pharma then I'm afraid that I will have no choice but to return to tobacco. It would be a tragic thing that my freedom of choice might be hindered due to what amounts to greed by Corporate America.

Off topic, but perhaps you can revitalize your atomizer. There have been posts in several of the helpful hints threads. I tried a number with no success. Then I found one on polident 3 minute. I went out and bought some, dumped two dead atomizers in the mix for about a half hour, let them dry out for about a day and I had two atomizers that vaped like new. Just a suggestion.

Wow, thanks for that. I have a dead atomizer and one dead NPRO battery that I have been reluctant to throw out (ok, I admit I'm a hoarder) hoping that I would learn how to make them work again. I will have to "borrow" a denture tab from my mother and try this.

So any ideas about the battery? Of course I have loads of spares, but it's the principle of the thing.

Do what you do with any battery once it loses its charge or won't recharge...

Having said that, I'm waiting for my first dead battery because I want to disassemble it and see what the components are. I already have one battery that the light died it which I call my stealth stick and one that the plastic fell off the end so I can see the circuitry there. But if you're not curious, throw it out.
