Wish my shop sold 316L, only way to get it here is to buy a UD Wire Box. 10m Kanthal, 10m Nichrome, 10m SS, 5m Clapton, 5m twisted lol. The 10m of SS would last me years lol.

Just buy it from Amazon.

I'll let you in on a little secret here. 316L wire is nothing special. It's been used by the jewelry and welding industries for decades. If you're buying it from a vape shop or some vape provider then you're going to be overpaying by a huge amount.

You can buy 2lb spool of 316L wire for less than $12. (That's over 1,200 FEET of wire) If you're paying more you're getting ripped off.

WeldingSupply 316L0232 $10.65

Personally I haven't used a non-TC coil in well over a year now.

I tried TC with my KBOX mini and missed the long hits. This mod fires until it reaches the temp setting and then shuts off. I could double bump the fire button but found this annoying and went back to wattage. What is a good mod for TC?
It don't shut off, it hits "temp protection" or whatever. They all do that, it just means it hit that temperature and begins to lower watts to maintain that temperature as best it can. Keep hauling on it, say you vape 400 it'll say temp, 398, temp, 399, temp etc.

That'd good advice was thinking of trying some ceramic coils with temp control, but never used it

Yeah, 316L offers so many advantages. The only issue with it is the low TCR, so good TC is more challenging for the mod. But it's easy to work with and compatible in both TC and wattage mode. Temco is another good supplier for it as well. They also carry Kanthal if you still want to use it at very reasonable prices over "vaping" Kanthal.

Now that my DNA 200s' are all updated and performing even better with 316L, I feel bad for stockpiling a good amount of Kanthal in different gauges. Not stockpiled for 8/8, but for options when building coils. Now I don't know if I'll ever use the stuff. With 28G and 26G SS, there's not much I can't build for my type of vaping as I'm not a super subohm type. Even my dual coil builds come in around 0.5 ohm, so I never have to roll a coil less than 1 ohm all that often.

Hey Gramdogg, thank you man! I feel a tad stoopid! Here's the deal, I even asked about this on the Kangertech forum and they told me that the kbox mini shut off! Works like a charm.

I think that's why the sites here. Tech support is pretty dumb usually. People here know more about their products then they do. Joyetech told me to remove my tank and wait a few mins lol. Thinking Over Heat Protection not Temp Protection... pretty sure it's a translation problem dealing with China.

24, 26 & 28ga SS316L is all I use for single coils usually between .4 & .6 ohms. Working great on a eVic VTC Mini @ 23 - 30 watts in TC 450F or power. I DIY all my juice & coils last quite a while...

@JRFII as others have said, it's probably just hitting temp control. But some mods still work better than others for TC; I've never used a Kbox so I can't say.

@Mr.Watkins I just wanna be clear, when your kanthal coils were getting icky did you just rebuild as the sludge built up, or did you take out the wick, dry burn, and rewick?

I can't answer for Mr.Watkins, but I would routinely dry burn and rewick my Kanthal coils. Could get away with that 4 or 5 times with the juices I vape which are not heavy or sweet. I also clean up my SS coils when rewicking and get several wickings (is that a word?) before needing a new coil.

Well right, that's what I was checking. My coils last a long time by either just dry burning or a "hard reset," which includes a water bath if they're really gunky. It kind of sounded like he was just rebuilding when it got gross, when obviously he could just rewick and that would save a lot of the frustration it sounds like he was experiencing. I still use a lot of kanthal and they last quite a while when well taken care of. Perhaps I misunderstood what he was saying, though.

Ditto on SS coils, I do the same thing you do. I say "wickings" is a word!

Sorry @Mr.Watkins not to talk about you like you're not here.

I like TC on SS but still find myself wrapping kanthal A1 on some of my atty's.

I know a lot of people who still do that.

For me, I can taste kanthal wire. Not sure exactly how to describe it, but with nickle and SS I only taste the juice, but with a kanthal wire I can taste metal in the vapor. Back before TC all I ever used was kanthal so I never really noticed it, but the first day I tried TC with a nickel coil I immediately noticed the difference. That's why I now vape with TC exclusively.

I know some people who are the exact opposite though. They can taste nickel or SS when the vape while they taste nothing with kanthal. I suppose it's just down to pallet sensitivity. Some people can taste some wires while not tasting others, and some people can't tell the difference between any wires at all.

I do clean my coils when I think they still look useable. I'd fire them till they burned red and then dunk them in water. They never came as clean as they seem to on youtube. Still, sometimes I could clean one three or four times before I had to trash it. I had more than one coil deform as I tried to pull the wick out, though that was not the norm, as I had usually burned most of the way through the center of the wick. I ruined more by deciding I would nudge them over a bit to try and free up more space for cotton or something, also resulting in a mangled coil.

I'm not sure if the juices I use would qualify as sweet, whether that has more to do with the type of sweetener, or the flavor profile... Anyhow, I use mostly local, Indonesian, juices in fruit flavors. I'm just buying juice from random sellers on a b2b platform, no idea who any of them are. I tend to buy whatever is cheapest, so it seems likely they use whatever sweetener is cheapest or most readily available. I'd say my coils gunk up fast, but I honestly have no basis for comparison.
