But I found something that I like just as well.

I loved the old recipe VG Tenn Cured, so imagine my surprise when the bottle I ordered in July tasted like vaping fine machine oil. No more JC for me.

I've been mixing Ecopure Rich, LorAnn Honey, Capella Caramel and, get this: Capella Pumpkin Pie Spice. Unfortunately I can't give you the exact proportions because I haven't been too careful in keeping notes. I will tell that I started with 2ml of Rich and ended up adding about another ml of flavoring. Majority is honey, then caramel, then about 5 drops of spice.

Imagine a dark honey flavor lightly spiced with clove and nutmeg, and that's what it tastes like.

Ok I did look and looked until i overloaded on recipes.....

Has anyone come up with a good alt to the JC Tenn cured recipe?
Hi Cranky and MaxUT! Sorry about your JC, that's a shame!
The recipe is Post #9.
This recipe will work for Tenn Cured, (the Old Formula of JC).
Increase the tobacco to 1 ml. Keep the 1/2 ml caramel, but instead of Hazelnut, use a shy1/2 ml of 2X vanilla, or double strength vanilla. Some would add a tiny bit of pepper (oil) and tiny bit of clove (oil), but you would have to find a source, I know it's mentioned in the DIY somewhere, possibly Lorann's have it.
If you use ECOpure Krystal 36mg base, you don't have to add more Ethyl Maltol, it's in the Krystal already. I used generic VG (thicker) for my mixer to cut. (801 carts don't like the thinner juices.)
Tenn doesn't have the sweetness of Original, it's more spicey rather than nutty.
This should give you pretty close to Old Tenn Cured, using the nicotiana rustica as your tobacco flavor. It's the best MHO! Personal choice whether to mix the rustica with the blond, half and half as I did, then cut with grain alcohol for your mix.
I use blond just to cut the high bitter of rustica (not as harsh) but some like the hard burley tasting tobacco better.
I would try a small 10 ml batch first, so you can adjust the flavor components. Measure everything in Milliliters, my suggestion. The rustica absolute is very thick, thicker than honey and very sticky. Order a tiny 2ml bottle first, it's expensive ($9) but you won't need much.

I never had the chance to try the 'old' formula, just the new one, which I really like but is very strong-flavored, I cut it with ECOmix usually, from 24mg to 18mg or 12mg. Two friends I've turned on to vaping with some of my stockpiled hardware are also Tennessee Cured fiends now. :)

Wanted to ask if you're talking about ordinary baking double-strength vanilla extract? I've always got at least a 4oz bottle of that on-hand, is why I ask. (Vanilla Extract, Pure Madagascar "Bourbon Islands" Double Strength)

I've got about 30ml of Krystal, but recently picked up the 250ml jug of 35mg/ml VG unflavored from vtvapor.com, which appears to be almost the same recipe but lacks ethyl maltol. (so I ordered some EM the other day ;)) I'd be thrilled if I could convert say 60ml of that into 200ml (about 10.5mg/ml that way) of something closely resembling JC's outstanding Tennessee Cured. Have PG, VG, EM already, and the above-noted vanilla.

Anytime you can use a double-strength, super extract is a good thing, start out with minimal amount and adjust to taste. The one you specified looks fine!
The new JC Cured is very strongley vanilla...there are also some clear vanilla extracts, have not tried them for flavor. To bring out most possible flavor, you may even want to thin vanillas slightly with EverClear....it will mix far better (stay suspended) in your VG.
Also, you may find it helpful to first make your Ethyl Maltol the way Vaporer outlined (this is terrific, it yields highest possible suspension of EM in a 'constant')
Go to post#144to that solution add your tobacco absolute(s)in the amounts specified, since they need to be diluted in EverClear or Vodka also.
I am currently trying different combinations of EM/absolute solutions, but my "juices" are ahead of my "uses" right now! (I got a little carried away making "MIX" batches!) I only use about 3 ml of juice a day, so this could take some time.
These combinations take time to adjust to your own taste, which is really the whole idea of "DIY", so start out your process by doing very limited (3-5 ml) batches. It's very easy to just make multiples then for a larger stash of 'making' mixes. It's such fun, absolutes are very hard to work with because of their low viscosity, they're sticky and potent!! Don't forget to add a tiny pinch of Menthol to "cool" the tobacco a bit. So any shortcuts you can come up with do cut down on waste and ease of use.
I do prefer though not to just "dump" all the flavors together, because I'm afraid of flavors becoming muddied and lost. That would be a serious waste, MHO. Absolutes are expensive, especially my favorite Nicotiana Rustica.
But I do think the Ethyl Maltol and tobacco flavors belong together in the same suspension.
