Hi all sorry if this is old news to you I did a search nothing on this specific question I just got my first mod a Tesla it takes 18650 battery my question is...

1. does it matter how high or what the Mah rating is as long as the volts are correct and...
2. are button top better than flat top.

Thanks so much
Phil
Welcome to ECF Phil...

Question #1. As an 18650 3.7v battery supplies only input or source power to the microprocessor of a regulated APV, after which the processor controls all output power parameters... you have just a few concerns when buying batteries.

If one is listed, the manufacture recommendation for battery minimum amperage or 'C' rating is the standard answer, but... as I don't see a minimum amp requirement listing in the Tesla specs (I do not own a Tesla, but that's not important), we'll go by the 3 amp output power limit, which is fairly normal with this class of APV.
Basically, any high quality IMR 18650 flat top battery will be fine... with higher mAh ratings providing longer run time between charges, all else being equal.

Question #2: Unless a manufacturer requires one or the other due to fitment design, IMO, there's really no performance difference between button and flat top.

A lot depends too on how hard you are pushing it. If pushing it to the max have found that the 30 amp flat tops will power a regulated mod longer than say a 10 amp. mah ratings can be very misleading. When using a 10 amp battery and pushing 15 watts, my mod would stop working when the voltage in the battery dropped below 3.9 volts, with a 30 and 35 amp battery, my mod would fire till battery got down to 3.5 volts.
