Mine's pretty simple. I had been wanting to get off the sticks for a while. I tried a cig-a-like-- just the one-- to see if the vapor was going to deliver the nic I needed. It did, and I bought an eGo starter kit the next day. In those days 15 watts was tall power, and it wasn't enough, so I moved into mechs. Stayed off for better than a year and fell off the wagon. Then I got off again and now I think it's going to stick.

Did you quit right away or did you wean off the cigarettes while vaping? Did it take long for the cravings to go away? I'm struggling with the first thing cigarette, after eating cigarette, and the before bed one too...

It was my decision to quit smoking, so I was prepared to have cravings and to fight them (you have to pay for years of addiction). I bought a rechargable cigarlike in a grocery store and hated it but still used it for 3 weeks and did not smoke. Found ECF, bought "vamo starter kit" (with iClear 16) and got all nicotine I needed. Now I use RTA, but never go above 15W. Do not want too much PG-VG-etc in my lungs.

For me I quit cold turkey. I had to ask myself a few questions to justify continuing smoking...I could not come up with a justifiable reason. I went to buy a cig a like and never looked back, progressing through various devices to get what was needed to assist the effort to remain off tobacco, BUT the main thing is, it is NOT vaping, it is only a tool, the real effort is in ones own determination to quit! Set the goal, stick to it and allow vaping to ease the path to victory!

Welcome to the forum Rev!

Don't feel like you're failing when you smoke one. I used both for a few days until I woke up one day and went to light my most favorite cigarette, the first one of the day. As soon as it was lit the taste was horrible and I decided it was time, and I was ready, for full time vaping.

I had smoked for 25+ years and had tried everything from cold turkey to hypnosis with no success. I've been vaping exclusively now for almost 5 years.

It may come sooner or it may come later for you but that moment when you realize you don't need that cigarette is very liberating.

Hey Rev! I started vaping with cigalikes a couple of years ago, but they were never enough to keep me off smokes completely.

Earlier this year I picked up a cheap clearo w/ 650 mAh batt, and that almost did it. Smoked random cigs in the few weeks I used the clearo, after dinner, drinks, etc.

Another month w/ an Evod & VV batt - that was enough to put them down completely.

Now that I have mods, mechs, tanks & atties I have no need to go back. I also made a promise to myself (and my S.O.) that if I was spending THAT much $ on vaping I would never pick up another cigarette. I'm still in the black in comparison to what I'd spend on smoking, even though I buy a lot of pre-mix juice.

The hardest thing for me was WD'ing off of the MAOIs that are in cigarettes- it took a good month or two until I started feeling normal again. You may not struggle as much, but if you do, remember that it will pass. It was so, so worth it. And if you fall don't beat yourself up - just get back on that horse!

It took me 3 separate tries with ecigs to finally get off the cigarettes. I smoked for over 42 years, eventually working my way up to nearly 4 packs a day.

I first tried back in about 2009 with a cig-alike and lasted about a week. I tried again in about 2011 with an eGo and clearomizer and that worked off and on for a few weeks. I lurked and read plenty on ECF but never posted.

My last try was in 2013 because I was coughing and wheezing like crazy. I found that vape equipment had improved dramatically by then so I got a VV/VW mod that went up to 15 watts. I found that I still couldn't quit the smokes completely and continued to both smoke and vape for 4 months.

During those months I found a thread that was for people having trouble quitting and began posting. I credit ECF and especially the wonderful people in that thread for helping me to finally give up the cigarettes. It's been over 2 years now since I've had a smoke and I still can't believe it. I thought I'd die with a cigarette in my hand, but now I figure it'll be my mod I'll be holding on to.

I've since moved up to coil rebuilding, more powerful mods, and temperature control. Making it into a hobby has kept my interest up and I haven't even thought about having a cigarette for a long time. The cravings do go away, but it's different for everyone. Stay on the path and you'll get to where you want to be. Good luck.
