I am seeing two and two and wondering if they add up to four. So, I'm hoping you will help me check my math. :D

In refining my reviewing system I have been giving a lot of thought to the throat kick. Since I have always prefered a light smooth vapor, I hadn't considered throat kick much before, except for prefering liquids that DIDN'T have it. But people want to see me include it, so, I've been doing some experimenting with it, trying different things, building my expertise.

At the same time, I was reading the http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/general-e-smoking-discussion/5522-direct-hit-analog-puff.html thread, and again, it made me reexamine my own practice, and how it impacts the review. And I started experimenting with that.

And between my own experiments and the posts on that thread, I am seeing a correlation.

But i want to gather more data and see if it pans out.

SO, please answer my poll:

Do you like heavy Throat Kick or not? And do you usually Direct Inhale or Mouth your Inhalation?

I couldn't even tell you now how I was inhaling at first but whatever I was doing, I got very little throat hit. Then someone suggested direct inhale to the lungs and WOW...that damn near killed me! But at least it was a hit...lol

Then someone suggested a primer puff, then into the mouth then inhale. That works great for me....just right. (I use a penstyle btw.)

But here's something interesting. I also use no nic in one of my pens. No throat hit at all using the primer puff method but when i inhale straight back, I get this horrid burn in my throat. Not looking for that...just a hit.

to me the idea of a direct inhale is a totally alien one.. it strikes me as barmy.. i was amazed that anybody even attempted it.. still we live and learn..

as for "throat hit".. what is it.. have we ever defined exactly what we mean by the term..

does it mean nearly a cough but not quite.. ???

a feeling of inhaling "something" as opposed to "nothing"..

anyways i am going to vote for liking a "throat hit" even thow i aint sure exactly what it means..

as for direct inhaling.. nah.. its just not something a real "smoker" does.. he he

trog

ps.. well i would have voted but it tells me i cant.. he he..

Believe me Trog, I know exactly what you mean, because I had the same exact reaction when I read that thread. Drawing just into the mouth and then inhaling? What? That's more like a pipe or cigar, not a cigarette!?! I'd never in my life heard of that.

Now quite a few comments I'd heard make more sense. Now I know why the lady at Smoke 51 kept saying I was smoking it wrong. ANd people on Youtube. And why I kept seeing people with vapor trailing out of their mouth after a puff.

We've got two camps here speaking different languages and not even realizing it!

I take it to mean a harsh sensation in the throat. Like you've been kicked. Duh.

And I would've said the same thing about your method. Funny world.

To me a throat hit is just a distinct feeling of something going down my throat, as opposed to breathing... Not harsh or painful though sometimes that follows.

Sometimes when I'm despirate for a kick in the throat I cover the airhole on the atomizer for a split second and I get a harsher kick than I would like but sometimes I really need that kick to keep my away from analogs :)

And i'm a "mouther", directly inhaling feels weird and scratchy.

I voted for heavy throat hit, even though I'm not sure what it means either. I like the feeling there is something hitting the back of my mouth. I do not like it so strong that I cough. When a battery is wearing down and the hit is disappearing, or when a certain liquid does not produce that feeling no matter how much priming I do, I feel no satisfaction at all from e-smoking.

i met a friend who i havnt spoken to for some time.. a heavy smoker.. he wondered what the thing was i was sucking at...

i told him.. in UK lower order parlance.. and electronic ... says i..

i handed it to him for a try.. the usual result.. he went crossed eyed and bust into a fit of coughing..

a "throat hit" perhaps.. he he..

or the definitive test for a good fully functional "electronic ...".. a device a real smoker cant handle.. if it makes em cough on the first try its working.. if it dosnt it isnt working..

whatever.. they without fail always hand me it back pretty quick and show no interest at all in having another go... he he

Well if it's just the fullness that most people are referring to, and not harshness or scratchiness, then that changes things.

Trog's right. We need to first establish what we mean by the terms.

Failure to communicate.

Thinking about it, when I tried direct inhale after watching a guy with a bird do it on video;) I only felt throat hit on the exhale.

EDIT: NO, wrong. Wrong memory. The throat hit kicks in at the moment I finally stop direct drawing from the cig and really inhale. But it is much weaker then in mouthing, at least with a minifogger.

LoL...... I don't know how to choose compared to my answer on your other post.

And damn you for making me power vape in an attempt to decide on this poll 8-o which I couldn't.

I'm probably a bit "uncultured" because I direct inhale... my primary goal here is to feed my nic addiction. I will occasionally mouth a puff to enjoy the flavor... and a French inhale makes the flavor even stronger... but generally I just mindlessly suck on the thing.

As for throat hit, I like to kow there's something going down but don't like a really harsh, cough-inducing hit, so I'm pretty middle-of-the-road on that issue.

I voted direct inhale with strong hit, but I think I was perhaps mis-reading the definition of what a direct inhale is versus a mouth puff. I was thinking by "mouth puff" you meant how you would smoke a cigar. I.e take it into the mouth, maybe hold it there for a while and blow some of it out, and possibly inhale a bit of it. Thats how I'd smoke a cigar anyway :D

I tend to draw into the mouth and inhale fully straight afterwards.

I *think* you are thinking of a direct inhale as how you would use say a nebulizer or an oxygen mask. I've tried it, but most certainly would not have smoked a cigarette like that. It works OK, but I don't find it a pleasurable way to "vape".

I have no clue about how to vote here.

I don't know what throat kick is, is it the same as throat hit and what is that anywey?

I like a low to medium amount of scratchyness/harshness/irritation and lots of volume/density of vapour. I don't inhale directly into my lungs, I don't like that, savouring the flavour in my mouth is one of the best parts of vaping.

I have a theory that because our vapour has a high pH like cigars and pipe tobacco that nicotine is better absorbed in the mouth than in the lungs like a more acidic cig.
