Happy Sunday night gang!
I was just stopping by to back read & I saw this post from Salem...who, I've realized is my secret twin sister! &
I am afraid of horses too! I thought it was just me. A small shetland or pony or something bit me when I was a kid
& I've been terrified of them ever since. Sigh.

I'm also afraid of cats, but that is a whole other story!

My other experience was that my dad got a pony for me and his mother for my sisters. We had a pit bull and a german shepherd that went nuts and killed them one day :( The pit bull was pure white and came into the house covered in blood. Very traumatic. My dad took both dogs to the woods and shot them. I was probably about 4 years old at the time.

Nope, I was 5 or 6. I remember waiting for the school bus the next morning and looking back to see the horses covered in tarps :(

That's a horrible memory for you Salem!!
No wonder you love "most" animals so much now!

Hey TT, did you hear about all of the cattle that were killed from eating Bermuda grass there in TX?

One rancher lost his entire herd :(

I didn't read that salem ... but my wife told me about it. I need to look up that article before I go to bed and read it.

I was sitting on the back of a horse before I was even able to walk!!! My dad led us boys around and taught us to ride early in life. Of course we had our mishaps, crashes and train wrecks on them, but we had two choices. Ride a horse or walk. Back in the early 1940's we didn't have anything else available to us.

TT

Yes, I had not thought about that in many years.

I may have told you this before...I'm getting old & repeating myself now...
But, I was not a very bright child - and it took me until my teen years to figure out that the bunnies & calves & chickens I played with at my grandparent's farm were the same ones I ate for dinner...

I always somehow thought that all the hanging rabbit pelts in the neighbor's barn were from old rabbits that had passed away peacefully....

Hey salem, here's some "pets" you would enjoy. These guys and gals are real "hams" and love to pose for the camera. That barn is where those two crazed cats live but I couldn't find them when I went to take these pics. Their around somewhere and for sure, up to no good! You know how cats are ....

Sometimes men have to do things that are unpleasant, but have to be done.

If a dog would kill a horse it would probably kill a kid too.

Your Dad did what he had to do, and I'm sure he didn't like it either, but he had to do what was necessary.

LOL< TT, my family was not farmers/ranchers. My mom and dad were New Yorkers and city folk. We moved to Ohio and my dad always had a passion for animals too. He would just pick them up and bring them home. He was gone most of the time so they were left for us to figure out what to do with them :)

Oh yeah, it had to be done and I understood that. It was just very traumatic at the time. Still is.
