TFA DK Type

The TFA website says it's kinda like a 555, but this flavor smells like apples to me.

I did a simple mix with 7% DK Type, 1% Carmel and .5% AP. I taste nothing but the DK type juice and it's like a perfumey apple. Where is the 555 or tobacco in this? The Mt. Baker 555 that I have had, has a very different toasty, nutty tobacco flavor.

#1 Has anyone had any success with a recipe using this? What am I doing wrong?

#2 Is there a flavor that's more like a 555 as we know it?

Thanks

I tried some of this stuff back in march, after trying the search function and not coming up with much, I shot it at 2.5% flavor into a 50/50 pg/vg 8nic base. All I got out of it was a perfumey taste, so I cut it repeatedly till I had it down to 1% flavor. Last thing I tried was adding 2% Tobacco Absolute 5% solution to it and vaped it up. That's all I have in my notes, but I did manage to get something vapeable out of it...I haven't re-visited the flavor since though.

To me DK has a strong musky smell but its great as a mixer. always have a bottle of each of these in my cabinet, none of which are mine but I have tweaked a few to suit my taste YTMV.
gave them all a 4 hour steep at 150 in the crock pot and 24 hours in the cabinet and they just get better with age.

all tfa flavors,

Kentucky Apple Wood clone

3% DK tobacco
5% marshmallow
2% hazelnut
3% caramel
4% apple

Kentucky peachGrass

6% DK tobacco
4% marshmallow
4% peach
2% hazelnut
2% caramel

DK Honey Tobacco (doubled this recipe from the original except the honey upped from 2% to 3%)

6% DK tobacco
4% caramel
3% honey
2% french vanilla
this one will stink up the whole house, may want to vape this outside. very complex flavor like a high end cigar.

So, I am sampling this batch and the flavor is exactly as I remember my first attempt when fresh. my current recipe:
39ml 40pg/60vg 8nic
1ml TFA DK Tab( 2.5% flavor )
12 drops Apple Cider Vinegar
2 hour 150° thermos bath

taste perception at this time is of a tobacco on the lighter milder side with an orange type citrus note to it. It is pleasantly sweet and very smooth, just how I remember my prior tests tasting. ( the perfume/off notes developed with time on my earlier venture with this flavor)...so, I have it sitting in the cabinet, lid off, letting it breath for 24 hrs. I am leaning towards believing that the 24 hour breathing step is key to the staving off of the off notes at this time. This flavor caught my attention initially because immediately I recognized it being similar to some FuZionvapor ejuice I had purchased along the way, which I liked. I am really hoping to get some stable flavor out of this stuff.

With DK Tobacco most poeple seem to either love it or hate it on its own. It by itself a 5% has been my all day vape for a long time, and yeah it really does have a musky smell, its really a unique flavor on its own, I taste more of a nutty tone than anything, kind of indescribable on its own though, can say I have never tasted a citrus or fruity flavor at all, its a much heavier tone to me.

I noticed a little bit really mellows out a strong root beer, I bought a few mods at a shop a couple of weeks ago and they threw in a juice of my choice so I went with Root Beer, Hells Vapor brand, it was good but way to sweet and strong for me so I thought I would knock down the flavor a bit. It really made it vapable for me, didn't add much at first and then I went 50/50 with 5% DK and I really got a unique Root Beer and DK flavor out of it, ended up with a really a strange brew but I thought it was really good. I have not been able to make the same really strong root beer with TFA's root beer though so I haven't really been able to match it. May have to try another brand of Root Beer flavoring to match it.

But yeah, some of these recipes sound really good, and I agree that DK is really good mixer too for some other flavors.

I hear flavor west root beer is good. Haven't tried it myself but fw has a few flavors that are spot on IMO.
here is another DK recipe accidentally discovered by a friend of mine who mixed two bottles together.

DK Master Blend

4% DK Tobacco
4% Tobacco Blend (Tobacco Absolute/Em)

4 hours at 150 in the crock pot and at least two week in the cabinet. It should turn an almost mahogany color when its ready
Surprisingly complex flavor for only a two ingredient mix.

I have that flavor and I don't really like it as it has strong "citrus" fruity notes that I dislike. I have not tried this yet, but I saw this thread where if you add ACV {apple cider vinegar} that it mutes the bad notes in this flavor: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/e-liquid-recipes/294561-dk-tobacco-zombie-style.html

-Hope this helps. :vapor:
If you still have that flavor kicking around you may want to give the ACV and open breathing a try. I have vaped about 10ml of my 2.5% batch already, and am enjoying this flavor quite a bit with this treatment. There is a very slight almost orange flavor to me, in a nice way. I can see where a nutty flavor could be perceived as well. I just hope that now that it is capped that the evil perfume flavor that I detected in the past attempt was vented off during the breathing time. I need to let the remaining 30ml sit capped for a while and see what happens...if all goes good this will be a flavor I want to play with some more.
