I've been lurking the forums here for a few weeks now and would like to thank the community for all the input on different kits and reviews on juice. I ended up with the Joye Ego kit and have some juice coming in from BWB and DIY Flavorshack. This is only day 2 without an analog after 12 years of smoking them, but this is the most optimistic I've been about being able to not light one up. So thank you ECF for a great start and hopefully I can keep this going.

Here's my question. I have heard from other vapers that vaping gets you through the day just fine when you are craving for an analog, but when it comes to vaping and drinking (spirited), its just not the same. I don't know if its due to the throat hit or the amount of nicotine that makes the difference when drinking. Do any of you feel the same way? I go out for drinks maybe every other weekend, and would hate to light up and take a step in the wrong direction. If any of you have felt this way, did you find a juice that fixed the lack of feel that an analog would give?

I actually found the smoking + drinking thing pretty easy to get over. I do like a stronger, rougher vape when I drink - like a strong tobacco flavor.

It's not necessarily because I want an analog. I've found after vaping for a few months that analogs don't give me any throat hit at all any more! It's just nice to have something stronger.

+1 on this.

Also alcohol will deaden the taste buds so for me that increases the need for a stronger flavor. I vape 9-10mg/ml DIY juices and will dial it up to about 15mg/ml if I am going out partying. I do this as an insurance policy since I am around smokers. It has worked and I have not taken a drag off an analog no matter how many drinks I have had.

I didn't even need to increase my nic - just needed a rougher flavor.

Of course, it probably wouldn't hurt, especially if you're in the early days of vaping. But don't worry about it too much. :) I have yet to find a situation vaping doesn't cut it for. In fact, the couple analogs I've had since I went to vaping were totally unsatisfying.

Never needed anything different than my usual vape when drinking.

Have gotten into the habit of having a stock PV in my pocket to hand to the few who ask a bunch of questions for them to try so I don't have to worry about whatever is in their mouths getting anywhere close to mine.

Maybe because my usual drink is straight bourbon?

Until recently I was a manager of a bar, so even if i wasn't drinking I was in a bar an awful lot. My PV at my regular nic strength was more than enough for me. I totally agree with the very wise MistressNomad that a "rougher" flavor, something with a little extra throat hit compliments the drinking nicely. In addition i like to try to find "complimentary flavors". I drink a lot of Guinness and found a few non tobacco flavors that go nicely with it (coffees work well, so do chocolate flavors).

Experiment with it and have some fun.

I am quite the avid Guinness drinker myself and the coffee/chocolate flavor idea sounds wonderful! To be safe I'll probably end up going with a few different alternatives with flavors and strength.

The vaping community here is wonderful. Thank you all for your input.

On a side note, how do you guys get that little signature on your posts that say how long you've been vaping and how much $$ saved?

I have to agree with a stronger flavor, but i would disagree with the notion that you would necisarily need a tobacco flavor. I do not really like the tobacco flavor, i find that just stepping it up to my stronger flavors treats me just fine. I tend to go to my 'Banana' and my 'Mutt's Fire and Ice' when I am out drinking.

I woud suggest thinking about an alternate way of thinking about your problem. Reframing the issue. Instead of looking for a replacement for smoking while drinking, try finding a flavor you enjoy more than smoking while drinking. I found this subtle change in thought process to really nip the smoking while drinking thing in the .....

I do remember having trouble when I started vaping and while I was drinking, I needed a strong tobacco flavor, it still wasn't the same thing, but with time I got over this, I'm now only vaping sweet fruity flavors and it's quite fine with drinking any kind of alcohol, so maybe just give it some time and you'll get accustomed.

Also your tastebuds will change quite frequently in the next month, just be patient, it's well worth it IMHO :)

Click on one you like and it should send you to the URL to make your own. Should be a simple matter to grab your code to use in your profile then.

There may be post # restrictions that I don't know about as I was here months before I added one.

Law - I think you need to have 15 posts then wait about an hour and Edit Signature will then show up as an option in your profile (easy way to get to your settings is press Settings in the upper right on this forum). At the bottom of the following page are some banners (click any to get to page where you can fill in your info). If you want a different one someone is using try clicking on theirs.
E-Cig Wiki

When you fill in the info for one it will then generate some HTML for you. With the one I used I had to paste that into my profile's Edit Signature text box, then select it, then press the little "Insert Image" icon above the text box (to the right of envelope icon). That added some code for before and after my signature's HTML. Then save your signature.

Thanks for the detailed instructions. Will definitely come in handy once I reach the 15 post requirement :)

Honestly, I am an alcoholic and have anywhere from 6-8 beers a night. Yeah, that is my next addiction to overcome, but one step at a time... I honestly had no problem going from a pack a day to 1-3 smokes a day, and those analogs only come in the evening after a few drinks. On my birthday a few nights ago, I drank and lot, but because I was out, had no analogs on me, and was keeping busy I found that I didn't even have a single analog. So I think it's all about frame of mind and keeping yourself occupied so you just don't think about it as much. Since I don't touch an analog during the day, I think it's the alcohol that causes me to want one because it changes the way you think and it's just much easier to get distracted and think "hey, I could use a smoke".

I don't drink, but if I did, I really don't think I'd feel a need for a cigarette. I know I wouldn't; I like vaping too much.

I have an alcoholic friend (who is a recovering vodka alcoholic, but is currently drinking two of those cans of Jooze every day), and she switched to vaping two weeks ago tomorrow. She finished her last pack of cigs, one cig per day for about the first eight days, and hasn't had a craving for a cigarette since then. I really believe she has quit smoking for good.

I started with regular tobacco & coffee flavours, and I can honestly say that during a couple of drinking nights I didn't need to step out for a regular cigarette. The first few weeks I had an itch to go outside & have one but I just made sure I had topped off carts & batteries to last the whole night. I still came out of the bar to vape (just as a habit) but I found that the coffee flavour was what I began to crave after having a few drinks.

I'd imagine it will be a little different for each person with regards to the flavours that work for them, but just tell yourself to use the e-cig instead of a regular "analog" & very soon you will crave the electronic much more than a regular cigarette while drinking.

Best of luck!
