Thank you all for you're input on setting me straight about the different cartomizer options out there. From what I gathered there are two paths I can take. I'm going to try both paths and see which one works out for me.

One seems to be the Kanga/EVOD series of bottom fed cartomizers.

The other is the Boge/smoktek punched metallic tank style cartomizers.

I'm eyeballing the Kanger T3S, and I want to buy a few replacement coils, would 1.8 ohms be decent for an eGo-T type battery? Or should I choose a higher resistance?

Now for the Boge/smoktek type of tanks I'm getting a little nervous ordering a few because I'm not sure what the hell I'm doing.

I have a few 3.5 ml tanks left over from a Madvapes kit I ordered a while back. Can I insert these Boge tanks in those and start using them right away? Or do I need to punch them.

From what I can tell they are not punched. I gather that by punching them you extend their life by allowing more juice to flow into the cylinder and allow more e-liquid in. So basically you mod the single use cylinder to accept a larger tank?

But here is where I'm a little sheepish about ordering, there seems to be LR, SR, XXL models what do these refer to? And I'm making a big assumption here that the 510 series will sit atop a eGo-T battery.

There are so many options out there if someone put up a website with a compatibility matrix that would be awesome, but the more I get into this I realize it would be almost impossible since new products seem to come to market almost constantly!

Thank you for your tutelage!

Hey Pat, welcome to ECF. I've noticed in your opening remarks that your terminology of the different delivery devices are incorrect, so when asking questions confusion can arise to prevent accurate answers from being given. Take a look at this picture dictionary of the more common delivery devices that I created to help newcomers to vaping. It should explain a lot of your questions and help you understand the terminology more:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/baditude/3230-1-proper-terminology-carto-tank-what-primer-juice-delivery-attachments.html

I'll focus my answers on cartomizers and cartotanks, as that is my specialty. After reading the descriptions and explainations of a cartomizer and cartotank in my above blog article, this will become easier to understand.

Cartomizers can be used in a tank to become a cartotank. Holes are required for the steel cartomizers to allow juice to enter from the tank into the cartomizer. You can make these holes yourself (not recommended for a beginner) or purchase pre-punched (laser drilled holes) cartomizers specifically meant for cartotanks.

This cartotank setup guide has everything that you need to know about how to pre-fill the cartomizer (most important step) and assemble the carto into the tank, and fill the tank.

This review of the popular pyrex IBTanked cartotank has information within it on how to choose the correct length cartomizer to fit a certain length cartotank.

I realize that this is a lot of information to go through, but at least you have all the links to information in one place. If you have additional questions, please feel free to ask.

*EDIT* :thumb: Baditude crushes all!

K, first off lets clarify a few things.

Kanger products such as the Protank (original, mini, 2) and the EVOD are bottom coil clearomizers, while the Boge(f16, f17 etc)/Smoktech (dct) are cartotanks, and the two systems are quite different.

As you said, cartotanks are essentially taking a limited capacity device (cartomizer) and extending its usability by surrounding it with a tank to feed it juice continually, rather that having to manually refill the cartomizer. The punching is required to allow the juice to wick from the tank into the cartomizer in the middle.

Cartomiser are likely slightly higher maintenance/cost than clearomizer coils over the long run.

The size of the cartomizer you buy to insert into the tank system is directly dependent on the size/type of cartoTANK system you use. The larger the cartotank, the larger the cartomizer needed to insert into it. Nearly every tank manufacturer will tell you the proper size cartomizer to use in their tanks.

Not sure about the compatibility of you Madvapes tanks, if you can produce a model name that would help.

I honestly think you'd be better off sticking with clearomizers early on, they seem to be simpler and more straight forward.

Nearly anything 510 thread will work on an ego. 1.8ohm should be fine.

Today's modern clearomizers have come a long way in the 16 months that I have been a vapor. They are easier to use, fill, and maintain than a cartotank. However, despite their recent improvements, clearomizers are a little more inconsistant in their delivery, and have not quite caught up with the flavor production of a perfectly set up cartotank.

A cartotank does have a learning curve, but if you consistantly follow a proven method of setting one up, I personally believe they offer a superior vaping experience to a clearomizer.

I'm already seeing where I went wrong with my initial cartomizer tanks. If I would have spent a few minutes looking at these tips I know I would have had a much better experience. Centrifugally swinging the cartomizers is ingenious! Like a dummy I initially primed the cartomizers by just dripping juice willy nilly in the center of the cartomizer without regard to the central air passage. I got away with it because it eventually wicked out probably but it none the less gummed up the coil.

It's nice having all this information in one place since it's so much easier to digest.

I've placed an order and when it arrives I'll post my findings.

Thank you for the help!
