Hi all,

I have been lurking here for quite a long time but finally registered today! Thanks to all for all the great info you share here. Its been an invaluable resource. I am still pretty new (a bit over a month no smokes) and enjoying being able to breath properly for the first time in a decade!

It took ages for me (over a year) to figure out the right gear to successfully switch to vaping. Being in the aussie outback where there were no stores and only a couple of vapers to try setups from was a real challenge. Spent a TON on various kit which although they didnt work for me, helped a number of people quit when they were donated/loaned around :). Although i didn't quit at the time I did get into diy juices (since you can't buy nic juice in aus - must come from overseas) and really enjoyed making simple stuff.

On a trip back home to north america I finally got to try my brother's vape and it was BRILLIANT. Didn't hurt or choke me and cough until incontinent haha. Turns out i am just not a mtl vaper (so starter gear just didn't suit me) and need a cool airy dtl vape.

Currently using an aspire nx100 mod with heracles 1 and uwell nunchaku tanks. Going to get back into diy and graduating to an RDA for flavour testing :D. That is a whole new kettle of fish and I have a lot to learn!

Cheers,

Christine

    Congrats Christine :)

I'm in rural nz and have the same problem as you with trialling gear. So far I've been lucky and loved the majority of what I've tried.

I'm betting once you try a RDA, Rtas will follow ;) Just got my first RTA and its so cool not having to rely on drop-in coils.

Congratulations Christine on finding a vape setup that is working for you now!!!

Thank you all so much for the replies and welcome :D!

Thanks brotherbob for the link to the straya specific stuff. I will eventually be headed back there.

AngeNZ - glad you were able to find things you like despite being rural :)

Well down the rabbit hole I went today. Have been doing a ton of research on what rda to get but totally scrapped those plans for now. Found a local store that had more advanced stuff (most of the stores here are basic kit and juice only) and went for a drive to check it out. GREAT store with super helpful staff!

Ended up buying a Ghoul and a couple of premade fused claptons and cotton to get started. Holy cow - life changing! Love love love this thing. It was more expensive than online of course but I am a fan of supporting good B&M stores. From chatting with the owner about how I like to vape he was able to suggest the right coil (and it is working perfectly for me).

Squonking looks kinda neat.... Oh boy I am in so much trouble haha. But it sure is better than spending $30 for a pack of smokes :D

Learning to rebuild is IMO the best vape asset one can have, DIY juice is a bonus. Rebuilding has nothing to do with saving money but the quality of your vape increases immensely. IMO investing money in a tank that has RBA and/or rebuilding options will reap in the end. Once you realize how easy coil building is you'll never look back. I'm a tinkerer, within the first month using CE4 clearos and the nastiest metallic hit possible, I researched and was rebuilding them...over 5 years ago, DIY juice 3 years and still kicking myself for not starting DIY sooner.

Welcome to ECF and congrats, Christine, on switching to vaping that's fantastic! Well done. Hope you enjoy ECF "visibility" and you have a great time.

I'm pretty fond of vape gear, one might say. I'm stocked up for life and have enough nic for me (and probably MANY of my ancestors, LOL) in the refrigerator.

I regret nothing, even if I WAS (not factoring in health costs) maybe NOT saving so much money to be frank. We bought loose tobacco and tubes from a reservation, so my 3 ppd habit wasn't much.... Only INCIPIENT COPD was CERTAINLY HIGHLY expensive.

I decided to approach vaping like I smoked-- with enthusiasm. LOL. So don't sweat an extra purchase or two, is my opinion. You also don't have to own 500 mods and have 700 liters of nic in your freezer, either. Everyone has their "comfort" Zone.

Aalter - your not wrong! This Ghoul RDA is seriously seriously mind blowing on flavour compared to my tanks. Its fun and educational. I am looking forward to building coils once I get to stay in one place for a while (metal tools are heavy in suitcases). Once I get back to australia it will be a mega bonus as where I live is pretty darned remote and I ADORE self-sufficiency stuff.

Woo hoo Matt on the new rda. Sounds like you and I are on the same path :). It is all I can do to not go to the store and buy that regulated squonk mod so I can keep this tasty flavour with me all the time.

Anna - Ya I agree vaping is more expensive in the USA than smoking (although in Australia we have the most expensive smokes in the world, no joke). I could buy a bag of loose tobacco here in alabama for like $7 and that would last me a month. But today I drove a friend to the dentist and there was this old guy in there on an oxygen tank and looking like death and I was thinking - I am so glad I am reducing my chances of ending up like that. Actually back home I do have many liters of nic in the freezer. Despite not being able to vape there, I was the local juice maker for a number of people. Aus government also is not very forward thinking with vape anything and the incoming legislation was not looking good. There are lots of vape "preppers" in aus haha :D - you'd fit right in.

I am having so much fun today re-discovering my juices on this rda. I had started hating all of them (partly vapers tongue semi cured with some menthol) as they were tasting like the smell of bandaids - chemically and bleh. Fruit stuff especially is shining and i can taste the nuances. Totally in love with blue slushie stuff again <3. I am still sometimes getting that bandaid flavour and one side of my cotton is getting far more discoloured than the other side.

The other nice thing with this rda is the single coil aspect. It is running very well at lower wattages and saving me a TON on battery power and despite good vapour production I am not plowing through juice like on my tanks.

Oh and vapemail came today. My AWS lb501 scale. I have always wanted one of these but can't get an aussie version sadly. I am pretty handy with a syringe having done veterinary school, but mixing by weight makes so much more sense! Sorry to yap on - I'm just rather excited about everything!
