So I don't quite know if I've technically reached it...

I've just sat here with all my stuff in front of me and totalled up how much it has cost me. The difficulty lies in not knowing how much I saved the first time I tried to quit so I've not included that but I have included what I know I've spent... So far, I know that in total I've spent £316 (eeek!) and I know that by the end of January I wont have spent £172.69...which doesn't look like a breakeven.

However...

If I take 2013 to be a brand new start, I'll have spent £59.93 on vape stuff and would have not spent £63.36 on tobacco...

So WHEN, yes WHEN I make it to the end of January, do I get to say I broke even....PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE?x

My SO still smokes, and she (we) spends $60 U.S. a week. When I think that could be doubled every week if I still smoked...
I don't begrudge her the $$ spent on tobacco, and I happily pursue my hobby. Honestly though, I think I've only spent $200-300 on vaping, compared to whatever my sig says that I would have smoking
If you're frugal, you'll more than break even. If not, enjoy your new hobby

People at work ask me all the time about switching to an e-cig and how much it will cost. What I tell them is that they will spend some cash to get their initial set-up and find what they like, but once they do, they will begin saving SO much money by not buying cigarettes. Those things cost around 10 bucks a pack here.

Not sure when I'll break even, but really don't care if I do. I knew, and so did my wife, that I would spend a ton of money upfront, I always do when I get into something.

My take on it is it better for me than what I used to do, and the "savings" are primarily in intangibles; how I feel, not stinking, getting my breath back, etc. If I never hit a financial break even point, I am way ahead in those items.

I have been thinking about that and my thinking is the money I am investing up front will save me in the long run because I am buying quality equipment. I have spent $300 thus far and I expect to spend another $200 for a couple more APV's that I want in the next couple of months. After that it will just be juices and supplies so it will get much cheaper. Smoking cost me $100 a week and lots more when you consider what it was doing to my health so yeah I think we are all way ahead no matter what we spend on vaping.

My break even is 6 mos out and I'm not too concerned, I'm even thinking about not keeping totals anymore.

I would have spent less if I had met someone who was vaping and helped me, but I'm spending less now. I'm happy with the mods I have and now in the final stages of experimenting with atomizers.

Does anyone include the cost of the out of cig runs in the car?

I have goals. I intend to make vaping very cost effective. My plan includes:

Mechanical Mods
Rebuildable Atomizers
DIY liquids

Making progress on the first two but havent started DIY yet. Everything i've bought over the last couple years i consider the cost of being on the learning curve. If i thought i'd continue to speed at the rate i've been spending, i think it would be a problem. So, i always consider the cost of vaping. The provari starter kit i bought one year ago cost me on average .55 per day for 2012. Should it go another year, which i think it will, that cost will drop to .28 per day for two years service. I think in those terms all the time, cant help it, i'm a numbers person.

I'm even already after less than 2 months vaping. 2 things that were key for me was that I started out with an ego twist - which I've been very happy with and haven't felt the need to upgrade - and I didn't buy too many juices before going DIY.

2 ego twists
2 vivi mini novas
3 Joye 510 atomizers
1 plastic drip tip
1 pack replacement heads
1 charger
1 250 ml bottle of unflavored nic
15 drams of assorted flavorings

Around $200

Not stinking like an ashtray, not having to go outside to smoke in the rain, not coughing up phlegm every morning:

Priceless

OK, I'm odd. I kept an Excel spreadsheet.

I quit on September 6th, vaping since then (with cheats, accounted for in the spreadsheet). I've spent $1,162 on supplies, whereas I would have spent $3,052 on cigarettes. I broke even on October 26th, and I've saved around $1,900.

That break-even date keeps moving outward every time I buy something new, but I'd have to buy a whole heck of a lot to put myself back in the red again!

How much were your cigarettes and how much were you smoking? Between the cartons and packs I was buying it cost me $4.10/pack.
