  1. You shall have no other gods before me.
  2. You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
  3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
  4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
  5. Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
  6. You shall not murder.
  7. You shall not commit adultery.
  8. You shall not steal.
  9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
  10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”
Notice #4, the command about the sabbath, which is friday at sundown to saturday at sundown. Why do most christians not observe His holy day? These are God's own commandments which He told us we must obey, He said it over and over and over again. Why do most christians think they are exempt from His commandments? I don't get it.

I've been doing alot of research about the sabbath lately, because I need to know the truth for my own self and my own relationship with God. And from what I've learned, the Sabbath is a requirement for all followers of Him, not an option.

I know this isn't going to be popular, but I still have to speak the truth regardless because God and His commandments are extremely important.

Does Jesus on the Cross that most christians wear violate commandment #2? I have had crucifix jewelry befor and have always wondered about this.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

Hi Bigham! Long time no see, good to hear from you again! I personally think that anything can be an idol if you worship it and bow down to it. The worship is the key.

Well we kind of do worship the crucifix. Most churches have them behind the altar. I would just like to know before he comes back and says Edward you have to go to hell for what you have done. Or is it the case that we are worshiping him with this idol so it will be ok?

Well, the bible clearly says to bow down and worship nothing carved from wood or stone or whatever. I don't worship the cross, and unless you bow down to it and treat it as a "god", then I think you're ok. But, this is something that you should pray about, tell Him about your concerns. :)

This can be a touchy situation. And let me say upfront, I intend no one any harm by what I say. I'm just telling it like I know to be true.:)

When you look upon a crucifix, you only see one aspect of Jesus. I'll break them up into 3's. 1) Jesus was brutalized, with flesh being ripped off his bones. 2) He was crucified on a cross, paying for our sins. Up until this point, His death, this could have been like any other guy worshipped, like mohammed. He died and was placed into a 'borrowed tomb.' When you borrow something, you always give it back. (Or you should, anyway.) Now here comes the best part. 3) He rose on the 3rd day!!!! He gave the tomb back, he was seen over 500 times after His Resurrection. He didn't stay in the tomb. Without the resurrection, Christianity means nothing. Jesus said, "Destroy this temple and I'll raise it up in three days!" It's the resurrection that completes the sacrifice. So, if you're looking upon a statue of Jesus on a cross, you keep putting Him back on phase #2. An empty cross shows just that. It's empty, because He is risen! He rose back to the Father while His disciples watched. The resurrection knocked beezebob and his onions on their hiney's. beezebob couldn't keep Jesus there. "Oh death where is thy victory, oh grave where is thy sting!" (Or vice versa.)

Hope this helped!:)

The Spirit testifies to my spirit that only IDOLS (carved of wood stone or whatever the medium may be) to OTHER Gods are not to be worshiped... When I wear a crucifix it's a symbol, it's not an object of worship... it's merely a 'reminder' of what Christ did for me on that Cross.. a blessed 'reminder' and something I can touch, hold feel and 'see' that keeps me in constant contact and communication with JESUS.. not the crucifix I'm wearing. That Cross has POWER to save and it does save. If you merely 'share' the Gospel without sharing/showing the images, you're preaching a blind Gospel and it doesn't accomplish much (we're a visually driven people... if we weren't pornography and sins of the flesh wouldn't have such a stronghold on so many.. lol)... so we NEED our images, our movies AND our Bibles (the WORD) to aid us in the visual aspects of leading people to belief. When we read the Bible we are not committing an act of idolatry, we're being obedient as God gave His word to 'read' so that we could 'know' Him, know what Christ accomplished on the Cross and to equip us for Ministry (win souls for the kingdom). God had Israel build the 'ark of the covenant' for Him to reside within... the people didn't worship the Ark per se... they merely 'observed' and worshiped the spirit of the most holy and high God that resided within it.. the Spirit has impressed upon my spirit that the images we've made/created that HONOR Him(YHWH GOD) and His Son Christ Jesus are not idols.. just reminders. :)

On the OP, you are right, the sabbath should be observed and the commandment followed. The only unclear thing is, what constitutes "work." When the commandments were written, we didn't have the same concept of work and the types of jobs we have now. But, I feel that the intent is basically still applicable. If sabbath to you is Saturday, then that day should be spent in reflection and prayer exclusively, giving all praise and glory to God. If one can achieve that, then one is in line with the commandment.

Oh yeah! I forgot to add what the Lord impressed on me as to what MOST people's REAL idols are; Houses, Cars, Physical beauty and vanities, Celebrities, Wealth.. just 'things' .... any and ALL things that our Hearts treasure above Him. These are all idols when/if we put them before the living relationship we have with our Lord. :)

Yep, Christian can absolutely have those money and other idols and not even be aware of it. The statues of the virgin mary and other "saints" give me the creeps.........I think those fall in line with idols.

Can we talk about #4?

Remember the Sabbath day - Keep it Holy.
I do.

Christ died and with His death purchased freedom FROM the Laws of legalism & bondage which is death. Whom Christ made free is free indeed. We are no longer under the 'bondage' of laws, but Grace. It doesn't mean we are FREE to sin, it just means we're to love one another more than we love the 'laws'

For instance, I observe the Saturday Sabbath (with prayer and worship to my Father GOD).... and I don't 'work to earn wages' on that day... but I will lay down whatever I'm doing, including the Bible or my worship to help 'anyone' (sometimes even just to pray with someone)... who is in need.. and I still feed my Husband and my Animals on that day.. (lol)

God gave us the ten commandments to 'convict Man of his sins' ... but we can't adhere to any of them without LOVE for GOD first and our fellow Man second. You can try until you turn blue in the face and you won't be able to do it. Without Love the Laws are impossible. The Love of Christ accomplished ALL on that Cross.

As long as we 'Love God and our Neighbors as ourselves' we've fulfilled the Laws.... all ten of them... as Love covers a multitude of Sins.

So, if that's true, then christians are not commanded to keep the 10 commandments?

We can't unless we're filled with the Holy Ghost (Christ's love)...

the ten commandments (in our living relationship with Christ) are no longer laws written on stone, but on our Hearts.

I think a few CV'ers may have just fallen and can't get up!

The commandments are God's laws for us, why would we not follow them? You lost me there...
