In management, you learn the 80/20 rule quickly. 20% of the people that work for you cause 80% of the problems.

Management is too optimistic.

For software development, we have the 90/10 rule.

The first 90% of a project takes 90% of the time.
The last 10% takes the other 90% of the time, if you're lucky.

Disagreement is the best part of this sub.

The vast majority of threads with disagreeing posters in this sub are very friendly and courteous. Seldom do the waffles and pancakes have to be brought in to distract angry posters.

That is a rare thing on the internets.

I disagree with posts fairly often, but I'm a disagreeable sort and still think this is the best sub in ECF.

And one answer had half of my guru-ness figured out.

I get my best advice about juice from people who make a solid living from selling juice. They are few and far between (many sell but few make real money) and few if any post on forums anymore. They do hang out in FB groups to share ideas and such but for the most part they are too busy counting money to post on forums all day. I myself though far from an expert have learned a great deal not always from but often because of ECF.

Ah, an internet search provided the answer...correctly too.

I had this posted near my desk a few jobs ago:

We, the willing lead by the unknowing have done the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much with so little for so long, we are qualified to do anything with nothing.

I posted that in large type on 11" x 17" paper after I was told I was responsible for an R&D project that had a budget of $0.00 and a 3 page scope.

^ I so feel like I want to steal that quote now...

Almost every single answer IS the correct answer, but you have to figure out what question it's the answer to. Most of the time it's not the question you were looking for.

Bingo, there! In fact, I am fond of telling people that no matter how complex a problem is, once you know the right questions to ask, finding a solution is trivially easy. That part can be safely delegated to the unimaginative.

In management, you learn the 80/20 rule quickly. 20% of the people that work for you cause 80% of the problems.

In my (admittedly cynical) old age I've also decided that 80% of the population is also not very smart. I think most people would at least somewhat agree with this. Of course everyone also thinks the're in the intelligent 20%, myself included. We can't all be correct and I just might be one of the duh dudes.

As I read the DIY E-Liquid forum, it seems every question has every conceivable answer. Every conceivable answer can't be correct. My advise to someone wondering what answer to listen to? Hellifiknow. I have learned one thing, there are several no kiddin' guru's around here. I have my top 3 or so I've found and listen to, figure out who they are and listen to their answers. :)

hmmm your answer to the 80/20 rule sounds better than what I learned.... if it took a year to do a job, it took 6 months to complete 80% of the work and the last 6 months to finish of the last 20%

I have learned a lot from a lot of different people here at ECF and I try to pay it back as best I can. I am nobody's guru, that's for sure. I think it goes a long way to stay on topic, and speak to that which you know about or have some relevant experience with.

I too have many years of experience in management, and my observation is that most of the time, those 20% are problems for a reason. Last time I checked my job description, problem resolution was a major function. Goes with the territory.
