Thanks Nico!

Would a SPDT switch work for switching between power supplies? If so, how would you run the neg leads? Just run both negatives to the modules neg In? Would simplify things a bit :D
Would having the battery neg seeing the circuit cause problems when using the AC adapter?

:D my normal state of mind

On mine I used the large round toggle on off on center post to Vin and one outer post to (+) Batt and the other to (+) PT. I also use a small slide on off on to select source for meter. I have not had any problem with common negative.

Yeah I dont see a problem with a common ground...as long as nothing else is common on the positive side between the two circuits that would allow a complete circuit to trickle thru. The E-Guru's would know better than I though.

Now, I really like this mod. I just purchased another momentary switch for the switch that I broke the contacts out of so i could finish my first mod. I may just make this my second mod. Is there room in this box for a voltage meter? How does this converter compare to the okr converters. What is the max amperage output of this. Really neat work. I like it!

Here's another box mod ;)

I'm calling this one the ACDC - maybe pimp this one up, what do ya think of a picture of Angus on the back? :D

Incorporated BJ43's http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/battery-mods/220307-vvbox-vvpassthru.html in this mod. I had the DC power jacks from my http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modding-forum/239196-coffin-vv-pt.html and just needed a DPDT switch. :thumb: BJ43 :thumb:

The box is a bit larger than I'd like; but I'm getting quite used to it :vapor:

Parts:

100mmx60mmx25mm project box ($2.37)
This LM2596 buck module from eBay ($4.25)
eBay switch ($0.60)
2.1mm DC Power Jack ($0.80)
RadioShack DPDT micromini toggle switch ($3.99)
Atty connector ($0.99)
2 14500 900mAh batteries

Parts Pics (forgot to include the toggle switch)

Thanks Todd :D

The LM2596 doesn't, I think, have the efficiency that the OKRs have. However, I finished this mod yesterday (~12:30) and vaped with it using both battery and AC adapter power all day and evening, vaped with it today on just batteries and popped the batteries out around 6:00 tonight and they were reading 3.6V. My usual carto is a 3.2ohm clearo (in a Cheapo Gummy Tank :D) and I'm a moderate vaper, 2-3mLs per day.
I seldom vape over 2A, I typically vape around 7 watts, so with my setup I'm usually around 1.5A. The eBay listing claims 2A typical with a max of 3A for this module.

One of these days I'll get some LRs for testing purposes :D.

Just popped my first LM2596. Watching the game vaping 6v 3.5 ohm all of a sudden it got very hot. An ohm ck showed the coil had shorted to 1.1ohm. Have 12.6 v going into the regulator nothing coming out. Don't know how to fix the regulator so I'll just replace the whole regulator. They do fail...lol

Thanks for the info BJ. How long had you been using that particular module?

FYI:
There's a seller on eBay, kuuco, who has a couple of modules for under $3 on Buy It Now.

is there a step by step for this for a complete n00b such as myself?

Hi thom. I'll post a step by step explanation within the next couple of days.

I am planning an ACDC v2 :D (Back in Black), basically the same thing in a different box. Probably work on it middle / end of this month. I'll do a step-by-step with pics for that one.

Just a heads up for anyone checking out the parts list above - the switch I used on this one SUCKS! The body of the switch has a larger diameter than other switches I used, so when this switch finally goes, I'll have to put a washer or something over the hole to mount a smaller switch, if I keep this one in working order

Other than the crappy switch and a wonky 14500, this mod is still going strong.

Here's a quick How-To for the ACDC:

1. Place items in the box to get a general layout

2. Drill holes for the atty connector, momentary switch and DC power jack.

3. Seat momentary switch and DC power jack
Solder wire to center post of atty connector and seat connector

4. Solder wires to the power selection toggle switch:

5. Solder +/- wires from toggle switch end pair to the DC power jack.

6. Solder + wire from toggle switch center post pair to the momentary switch;
Solder a wire from second momentary switch post to the Vin+ connection of the module.

Solder - wire from toggle switch center post pair to the Vin- connection of the module

7. Solder wire from the atty connector center post to the Vout+ connection of the module.
Solder a wire from the outer shell (negative connection) of the atty connector to the Vout- connection of the module.

8. Secure everything in place with Plumbing Putty Epoxy, the modder's best friend :D

I got one of those boards, plan to make a small box to plug in the car for long trips.
I then wanted to use it in the house so I finally figured out a use for some of my old computers. I ripped the power supply out and plan to make the 12 volt out connect to my box. Most computer power supplies deliver 8 to 10 amps 12 volt if I read the specs right.
Will post more when I get it done.. Got my first rebuildable atty a Line, working the learning curve..
