Very nice TomCatt, I have been considering a similar mod for a very long time now.
I just had a though though, that I don't think I've seen mentioned.

What determines the range of stepped down voltage?

8.4 volts in, gets you 3 to 6 volts out? what happens when the batts are down to 7.4v's?

Is it the resistance of the pot? Any voltage in gets you 3 to 6 volts out?

What ac/dc adapter are you using? I figured on using a 12v 5amp laptop charger.
the question comes to mind because of the different voltages between batts and laptop charger.

What determines the output range?

With the step-down (or buck) converters typically they will have a lower voltage limit set by resistors and an upper limit is typically ~1.5V below input level. On fresh Trustfire 14500 batteries, the LM2596 module I have has a range of 2.7V to 7.2V. To adjust the voltage you use the pot. As long as the input voltage isn't too high (the module I have has a 50V capacitor on the input ) or too low and you have adequate amps, you're good to go.

I use a 12V 2A AC adapter, BJ43 uses a 12V 5A adapter with his VVBox and VVPassthrough; which I shamelessly copied the Passthrough idea from :D.

OK, I've found a poster that sums up my modding wonderfully!
