I wanted something different and for my desk and didn't want it to look like every other wood box mod so....The Cube

Variable Volt with built in meter. The black switch turns the juice on and off to the meter so it only lights up when I want it to light up. I used the cheapo $7.50 vv chip/board and 16340 batteries. I've still got a little finishing work to do on the box, but I really like the way it turned out.

Since the meter will be on the bottom almost all the time I mounted it in a recess for protection. The button switch might not last, but I like the minimal look and if need be, access to change it out is easy. Cedar with several coats of Tung Oil and put a poly top coat for durability.

That's about it for this one. Need to think of some new projects now that this one is almost done.....

That is beautiful work Parallex ! I was really inspired by your first cedar mod an started building this walnut box just to set on my desk. I had set it aside for a while and not fooled with it. Fitting 18650's on the other side. Really one of my first mods and I didn't think far enough ahead before I started. But just took a bunch of different ideas from many modders here and especially owe you for inspiration on the wooden box. Hope my next one looks half as good as your yours !!

Edit : I am starting a new one soon and doing away with this. Just velcro'd the board in there. Nothing glued permanent :p

poland, and the brassy lands of google
The black switch turns the juice on and off
My heart skipped a beat on that fragment :)

Charming mod Parallex, and beautiful woodwork. I don't see why the meter would usually be on the bottom, when in use wouldn't the atty point upwards? Being a cube, does the door allow for closing in different orientations, so the meter is upright?

Since the wire leads to the meter are soldered on, the meter isn't fixed to the lid in case I need to get the lid out of the way. It's held in by friction so it's just a matter of popping it out and reversing.

Feels nice in the hand and, once again, that cheap chip does a really good job

The hardware is oriented the way it is to keep it as much out of sight as possible...no successful, but from a number of angles it looks like a plain wood cube...that's why the meter is on the bottom

Do you know where I might pick up a hand sized box, yours is SO nice I am inspired to make one that I can hold!
I am not good with wood so it would need to be an actual rectangle. :)
