I posted this in the new members forum just to get it out there. Before I could post here. I'm on my phone so my apologies if this looks a little wonky.
This is long, I'm sorry about that. I hope you take the time to read it.
Ok. Here is what happened to mine in any case, it turned itself into a dangerous non-vented device. And it did it all on it's own.
So here's how, when I got it, like every one else I'm sure, took everything apart and looked at it. Now my bottom cap. The black plastic disc that holds the bottom contact post just sat in the bottom cap. And lifted right out, not like I had to work to remove it. Well there are holes in that disc that line up with the holes in the stainless bottom cap. I lined up the holes and put it back in. No big deal. So I threw in a battery screwed a tank into to top cap and screwed that on and vaped away....all was right with the world.
So after using it a few days. And swapping batteries a couple times. I took it apart again for maintenance. Yeah I know but I wanted to see how the area where the button meets the contact post and see if it needed to be cleaned. Well I noticed the holes in the disc didn't quite line up straight with the bottom cap. Didn't think much of it. Just turned it a little and went on. So after a week or so. Several battery changes. Once again I took it apart. What I found shocked me. The disc holding the bottom post had rotated enough to completely block the holes in the bottom cap. I left it that way put a battery in it, left off the top cap and held the battery in place with my finger.
I tried to blow through the bottom of the EA and yeah you guessed it. Completely air tight. The simple act of swapping batteries several times did it. And yes before you ask, always changed them through the top. I mean that's how you do it. The pressure on the bottom post from the battery while tightening down the mod rotated that piece. I know. I could press on the bottom post with my finger and rotate the disc holding it in tje cap.
It was a very simple fix. Just a really thin strip of Scotch tape on the edge of that disc and now it's in there tight enough as to prevent it turning. Now.. to get an idea ..we are only talking a piece of tape maybe...maybe a quarter inch. So it fit pretty tight to begin with just not quite tight enough now I've looked at a couple others in the stores when I see them. And so far they seam a little tighter than mine was. Maybe it was an isolated issue but one people need to be aware of. Ck your vent holes if they don't look aligned then I would look closer. To assume the device is vented just because there are holes in the bottom cap. I mean how many of us take vent holes for granted. I found this by accident. The last thing we need with all the politics around vaping at this time is bad publicly with another mod blowing up or the anti vape squad concluding all e cigs are dangerous devices.
I hope you EA owners out there took tje time to read this..and hope you don't or wont have the same issue with yours
Thanks for your time.
