A brilliant young lady has invented a device that charges in 20 seconds, and lasts 10 times longer than a normal cell phone battery.

Esha Khare, 18, of Saratoga, Calif., showcased her invention at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix this past week. She took home $50,000 for the super-fast charging device — which could make charges that take hours just a dim memory in the tech world, the Daily Mail reported.

Exciting times ahead! It'll be interesting to see what kind of mods you'll be able to make with that concept. And charging in 20 seconds? Yes, please!

I didn't read the story and don't know how much credibility her device might deserve, but if it does work, many many industries are going to benefit from the development. The big electronics maker have had battery technology in R&D for years.

I'm ready for a 18650's longevity in the size of a hearing aid battery.

Yes, I just read the project summary and it is a very energy dense capacitor. (Over 20kW/kg which, if it is reproducible, is amazing.) Losing less than 33% of capacitance in 10,000 cycles is pretty interesting, but it may be based on a certain loading.

The thing I find most amusing is that when I was being taught electronics I was told by a professor that a 1 Farad capacitor would be as large as a typical semi truck trailer. A few weeks later I gave him a 1 F capacitor that fit easily in the hand and his poor brain was boggled. (It was a horribly fragile cap and had very limited usage, but it was 1F.)

This student is someone to watch. Will we see something great from Miss Khare in the near future?

Now that many are using massive tanks or RBA's, the battery shrinks.

Welcome to the future?

Naw. Imagine a smaller base that your tank screws on to. It's the same size (circumference wise) as the tank, but only an inch or two tall. Something that's easily palmed, but still lasts all day.

Sounds great indeed!

Hopefully, Eveready, Duracell, Panasonic or Energizer won't buy up the patent and throw it away in a safe deposit box somewhere to be forgotten. This would prove a threat to their return customer index...much as we saw with the invention of the good 'ol light bulb. Now, they have the lifespan timed to the minute... ;) Gotta have you coming back for more, ya know?

Well it seems the FDA website might be accurate after all - they said that there was an ecig the size of a USB.
Most e-cigarettes are manufactured to look like conventional cigarettes, cigars, or pipes. Some resemble everyday items such as pens and USB memory sticks.
