There aren't many epic series.

jim butcher
brandon sanderson
patrick rothfuss is two books into one.

I think we're going by different definitions of 'epic'. Hell, I'm not even sure how I'd define the word exactly, so I'm not saying that I'm right and you're wrong. :)

There's some incredible writing in Rothfuss' books. That little intro to The Name of the Wind had me hooked (the thing about the three types of silence). The books got a little slow at times for me, and there were a few other things that I didn't like, but overall I thought they were great. Looking forward to the third one.

Sanderson's books weren't anything to write home about IMHO. Maybe epic, but a bit predictable at times, with characters that were hard for me to connect with.

Jim Butcher's stuff is fun... a little like reading Sue Grafton with fantasy elements.

Sorry if I'm being too OT here. I'm enjoying the thread, but I'm not caught up on the show.

I thought it was a really good episode. I was excited to see the Battle of Blackwater and it deserved an episode of its own, without interruption: "meanwhile, back in Qarth..." But I can't wait to see what they do with Dany and her visit to the House of the Undying, and I always love Arya's part. Not sure where they're going with John Snow, since his part has varied greatly from the book.

I thought the scenes with Sansa and Cersei were very good. It let on a lot about why Cersei is the way she is.

Last night before bed I reread those scenes in Clash of Kings - the show kept the dialogue pretty much word for word. I thought it was well done too.

In terms of casting... imo Ygritte is way prettier than she should be, and Asha Greyjoy (Theon's sister, they changed her first name for tv, which I can't think of atm) should be more attractive to pull off the "desirable tom-boy" look. Brienne, however, is spot-on. I often find myself wishing that Josh Holloway (Sawyer from Lost) was playing Jamie Lannister.

Josh holloway looks exactly the way I pictured Jamie lannister from the books. I don't think the accent would have worked though. ;)

Brienne IS perfect. They must somehow make her look taller in the show. The rest of the actors look like hobbits compared to her. I love her and Jamie's relationship in the books.

I also found myself wishing that Asha was more of a knockout. I pictured her more as a xena warrior princess type of character.

I completely agree with you. The cast is really good :)

I'm sad, I want the season to go on forever.

I'm only on book two of the GoT series, so at least I'll have the books to fixate on for a while, but I really didn't want to get ahead of the series, either.

Ya know, I seem to be watching (and hooked) on more shows from SHO and HBO than regular broadcast. The premium series are outstanding.

I know, my Sunday nights are so completely overtaken now, and the rest of the week there's nothing to watch. Well, sitcoms on Wednesdays are pretty good, I s'pose. Meh.

I know:

The Big C
Breaking Bad
Weeds
Episodes
House of Lies
Homeland
Dexter
Shameless
Californification
Veep
Nurse Jackie

I'm sure I'm missing some but I DVR them all and watch throughout the week? Why watch regular TV?

I wish the episodes were 2 hours long, I'm always checking to see how much time is left while I'm watching. Then I get disappointed because I feel so much more needs to be explained before the end of the episode.

Also wish they did a spring and fall season, waiting a whole year is just too long!

OMG, so do I, constantly hoping there is so much more, I thought I was the only one. What would we do if we didn't have DVR??? What? Watch real time TV? Not and chance.

All up in your grill..
I've been digging the Spartacus series on stars too. My girl watches all that dreadful reality tv. Otherwise our cable box wouldn't leave the premium stations. Unless they start making new aqua teen or venture brothers episodes again. Then I would probably tune in to adult swim. Gah I am paying a ton for this super premium cable internet deal and there are like 4 watchable channels. What a rip.
