I finished thrones, I'm just into the second book.

I'm hooked. I have a feeling that "Needle" is going to be getting a workout in this book.

Of all the characters, I have to say I like the dwarf the best. There is nothing like brutal honesty double dipped in sarcasm.

The kid they put in the pen with the Kingslayer, who the Kingslayer killed.

Was that the smith kid with the bull helmet?

It just seemed like he showed up in Robs camp outta no where.

And what paper was he talking about?

No, it not King Roberts son. That's the kid with the bull helm. The kid that was in with the King Slayer is a delivery guy per se. He brought the parchment of surrender I think. That's why Robb left there near the end of the episode. I may be wrong though. Great show, even better story.

The kid in the pen with Jamie was his cousin. Another Lannister whom Jaimie, (King slayer), killed as a diversion in hopes of escaping. The paper he speaks of is the one that he took to Kings Landing to show to the small council. It dictated Robb Stark's terms. Cersai tore it iPhone a fit of pique.


Robb has gone to the Craggs to accept thier surrender. Katelyn is in charge of the camp until he returns. Jamie attemps escape on her watch. Kills his cousin AND the Karstark boy who was supposed to be keeping an eye out on him.

Gendry, Robert's bull head helmeted ....... son is currently at Harrenhal. This is where Tywin Lannister is. Arya Stark is there, too. As Tywin's cup bearer.

I love GoT! I started reading the books after seeing the first episode of the series last year. I've read them all now except the 5th which I've been waiting for on paperback.

It definitely doesn't turn into a soap opera. I thought the first book was really good, and the first season of the show was pretty faithful to it. There are a lot of differences between the second season and the second book, but the key points of the story are still there. I totally understand why they decided to change some things or simplify/leave things out. The books are very in depth with characters and there's no way to fit it all into a 10 hour season.

The third book, A Storm of Swords, is awesome, best one of the series by far. I couldn't put it down. The 4th book, Feast for Crows, unfortunately has some really slow parts, and introduces new character view points that I just wanted to skip over. I'm pretty sure they'll have to split the 3rd book into 2 different seasons - there's no way they can fit everything that happens into just one short season.

(No specific comments, since I've read the books.)
I love how unpredictable these books are. So often in fantasy stories (or any other kind of adventure) the good guys look like they're about to die... but suddenly at the last second, here comes an ally, and they're saved. I get sick of it - especially after reading Martin (and a few other authors). It's just as likely (or maybe more likely) that nobody shows up at the last second to save them, and you're left saying WTF, did he just kill off that person?! But that was one of the main characters!!

Good luck guessing who's going to die.

My husband just about had a fit during season one when Ned got killed off. "But he's IMPORTANT!!!", hubby railed.
Now he constantly asks me if X is going to die and I refuse to tell him

oh!!! Another epic series where people get killed off after you have gotten emotionally invested into their characters is the Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erickson. I heartily suggest the series if you like those authors that are good at world building and who suck you in completely.

I'll have to pick those up. I've heard a lot about them. I don't have much time for reading these days, so I've been reluctant to start anything really big. I listen to a ton of audiobooks at work, but unfortunately those aren't available as audio.

Have you read Abercrombie (The Blade Itself)? He's one that sort of reminds me of Martin. The scope of his world/politics isn't nearly as large as in GoT, but it's still a very interesting world (and politics). His characters are great, and complex. It's often not clear who's good or bad. I sometimes wound up totally liking someone who I initially was sure I'd hate. (That's something I like about Martin too). Abercrombie's stuff is more action-packed (bloodier), but not in a bad way (not like some cheesy hollywood movie that adds a bunch of explosions to compensate for flat characters and a flimsy plot).

Martin is definitely not afraid to kill off a main character or 3. I'm on pins and needles after having finished the last published book (#5?).

I love the show and the books. What I like most about the books, I think, is that very few characters are pure evil or pure good. They are complex with complicated motivations and emotions. I thin Tyrion (the dwarf) is my favorite, both in the shows and the books. I also old Danerys. She kicks some serious ... (not there in the show yet, sorry if a spoiler, but I don't think it will ruin anything).

I had not been keeping up with the show, but got my HBOGo working and managed to catch up over the past few days. Now I'm thinking about re-reading the books.
