The good, the bad, and the damned ugly

They say don't write in all caps-it's shouting. I don't want to shout, so I'll simmer down.

The good is that I'm so thrilled that SI is expanding their line. I've toyed with the idea for weeks of trying another company to get bigger batts and cartos, but I feel a fondness for this company.
A fondness that began with SteelJan. Hers was one of the first YouTube videos I watched on vaping. Such an ocean of them out there. Hers were simple, friendly, and appealed to me particularly because we are near the same age.
She told me to get a Volt and I did.
Soon I sought her out because I felt I could trust her. She may say something I would dispute sometime in the future, but she would never lie. Not for free merchandise, not for anything.
She mentioned that she was in pain, but she kept me smiling, and sometimes laughing. Thanks for that, Jan.
Many of her videos were way over my head, her education and experience far exceeding mine, but I listened carefully and tried to learn something with every video.
I hate beer but watched her beer reviews and tutorials with the same pleasure that I got from her ecig reviews.
Then I saw her last video. Upset, tearful, pleading for some confirmation that she was appreciated because someone was bullying her. Bullying and harrassing and scaring a sweet woman who only tried to help and inform and make friends online. A woman who posted when it hurt to sit in front of a camera.
I wonder if she will be looking at ECF now and then to check up on all her friends. I hope so.

Jan, I'm one of so many who will be a little lost without your guidance. Do us a kindness and let us know how you are.

We at Smokeless Image love Jan and wish her all the best no matter what she decides to do, but hopefully she will return with videos or just chat with us here on ECF when everything calms down and she feels up to it. There has been an outcry of support for her on you tube and in the forums, and hopefully she is feeling the love! Bullying is terrible and should not be tolerated. Debate, inform, discuss, disagree but there is no need to name call, put someone down or make them fearful.... there is nothing to be gained from that...but you have everything to loose.

OMG. I've been lurking on the forums for quite some time, very rarely posting since last summer. Went back to the analogs for a few months when a family member passed. When I finally got serious about finding a better e-cig than the cheap thing that wasn't satisfying me, it was SteelJan's videos that led me to my Volt.

I didn't want a fiddly Mod or tank or anything that wasn't plug and play. SteelJan's reviews were straight forward, not full of lingo a newbie wouldn't understand, and honest. Thanks to her, I knew I wasn't "missing out". I didn't have to listen to some people in the local community that think you need a mod to vape effectively. I've been THRILLED with the Volt. Some of the mod guys I work with asked for cards because it's hard to walk around a bar with a big mod in your pocket.

Jan, I'm sorry it took so long for me to send you a message on there (mine was the one about the We Are Vapers movie if you're reading), I'm sorry that anyone would feel the need to attack another member of a community that desperately needs to stand together, most of all, I'm sorry that I won't be able to go to your channel and enjoy your reviews and advice anymore. I understand though, that you don't deserve to be subjected to the kind of treatment some claiming to be "community members" put you through. Please know that you were and always will be appreciated by more people than you will probably ever know.

I'm not a frequent poster, but sure am a SI fan and especially have been a fan of SteelJan's for quite some time.

If it weren't for you, SteelJan, I would not have made the switch to SI in August '11.

I had a gut sinking feeling when I read about what has happened, and you deserve nothing but accolades!!!!

I am so very sorry you had to endure what has transpired, but please know there are many many folks out there who appreciate what you did for them.

I wish you all the best, and will miss your videos as I frequented them regularly!!

As SI Customer Support, I have sent out her videos when some customers have issues with understanding how to use their products, especially the PCC's (sometimes it's just easier to have a visual to help through issues). I'm not sure what exactly happened, but it breaks my heart that anyone would be mean to this lady! She's wonderful and I hope if she does see this thread, she will know she does have a fan base, and she has SI CS on her side!

im somewhat new to vaping and ecf. i actually come here pretty often but do alot of lurking on the sidelines soaking in all the info. hearing things like this makes me want to jump off the sidelines though and say a bit. i 2 am someone that has benefited from steeljans videos. i think her videos were the ones that actually made me want to go with the volt. iv watched many of them . its sad to hear what has happened and that steeljan is no longer going to do videos or be apart of ecf . she imo has really become one of the faces of this community when u think of ecf. i just hope every thing works out. hope she comes back. thats my shpeel lol

Last night I got so upset over all of this that I had to get offline and I even shut down my computer. I was sad about it, but also so angry that I was afraid to post.

Since these cyber bullies operate anonymously I don't know what can be done about them. It's shameful that they could drive such a nice, intelligent and giving person like steeljan away. The emails must have been way over the top to have gotten to her that deeply.

I hope that one day she will be able to return to us but my biggest hope is that she is doing okay and is able to get all that ugliness out of her head. The videos showing support and the many messages she has been receiving may help her to get things back into the proper perspective. God bless and keep you, steejan.

Someone in ECF has offered to sponsor her on her own website away from YouTube and has promised that he would make sure no one attacked her there. I hope she learns of the offer and accepts it - if that is what she really wants. I was waiting for more videos to come out and will miss the ones that I know would have been in the future...

I agree, one of the things I liked about her reviews was that I knew it would be clean and I didn't need to worry about who was in the room when I watched them.

Oh My Lord!!!!!!!!!. I wrote a crappy review blog for a while, but gave it up when my e cig research took over my life. But it was mildly informational and entertaining at best. Jan is genuine sincere and very informative. I dont quite grasp or care for all the tech knowledge but I love the fact that she does, that she goes to such detail. That she is so in depth about any thing she produces. God Bless her. I never would have bought a mass market e cig like the volt again with out her review. If I ddint know how well it stayed at a constant voltage no matter the charge, and the demo of the cartos and why they were different and superior. That sold me, that and her entire demeanor. I understood why these cartos and batts were different and better and why they were the perfect thing for me. Im here because of her, Im quiting again because of her. I have no idea what happened or who did it but quite frankly...........screw them. Thats as hostile as I will get, though if I were a witness to some one doing the things Ive heard to her in a public setting in front of me, call me a good ole boy, but they would be given a chance to apologize for their disrespect to a sweet lady or pick up their teeth! Any one know how I can tell her what she did for me, how much of an influence she has been to me. I dont think she even knows how much that video did for me. I think Im going to finally quit this time, call it life saving. Please let me know if I can share this with her, PLEASE.

So sorry I didn't download her stuff. Never occured to me she'd leave. But who would have thought there would be such hatred in an ecig forum. All of us just trying to live longer.

I'm just guessing, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the videos become once again available after all of this dies down. Basically, the fortress is closed down to thwart attackers, but I'll bet the doors open again.

I appreciated that SteelJan didn't bling up her videos with long Rap, or HipHop, loudly blasting at the beginning of the review. Many of the reviewers are more about themselves than the product that is being reviewed. The loss of Jan's presence, guidance, and videos is devastating.

I miss her, most certainly. I'm hoping that once things die down after a while, that she'll start doing reviews again and just leave it so her site can't accept comments or emails or pm's. She is just such a joy to watch and she doesn't sugar coat or over blast a review. Yes, I certainly miss her. I wonder what she would have said in a review of the new X2? I was looking forward to that one.
