:Warning: Epic Catch Up Post!
Mesh has been ordered (1x A4 #400 and 1x A4 #500)
thx!
Morning Paul,
Snowing here as well. but not freezing yet so it'll be gone later on. But it looks so nice, makes you dream of a white christmas doesn't it.
That is the 4 letter "S" word in my house!!
Thought it was the new vape-n-play Xbox controller
I'd buy one of those!! Pull RT to Vape! Blops2 here I come!!
for those using #500 mesh, what dimensions are you using in the IHY's?
I tried 3"x2" based on Blaine's video. Do you think I could get a 3" wide piece of mesh rolled tight enough to fit in that hole? Not on your life!

I take a 4"x2 1/4" (100mmx60mm) piece of 500 mesh from the piece I bought from TheMeshCompany. I roll it as tight as I can with my fingers until it fits in the wick hole. No trimming necessary there. I oxidize my wick using my gas stove in the kitchen and it's very typical. 3 red burns with tap water quenches, 3-4 juice burns. I just make sure that for the most part it looks pretty dark colored. The whole time I'm doing this I'm just pinching one end of the wick with my pliers cause I always trim one side anyways. You may have to tighten up the wick just a bit to get it to fit in the wick hole again cause it tends to loosen a bit while oxidizing.
I start off with about a 2ft piece of 32g Kanthal from KingOrchid on Ebay. Fold it in half and put the loop end on the end of my dremel I got from Harbor Freight for like $9. Hold the other free ends with my Gerber multi-tool and keep the wire taught. I literally twist until one end of the wire actually breaks(usually pliers side). Then I have about 1ft of twisted 32g ready for future use.
I then take a nail I found lying around the house that perfectly fits into the wick hole on the iHy. I put the nail in and use it to wrap a 4/5 coil. Pull the nail out and fire it up until the wire changes color a lil bit from the heat.
This part takes care if you use this method. Pay close attention to the direction the wick was rolled cause it will help you when twisting the wick into your coil hopefully without messing it up.Twisting one way will encourage the wick to tighten, the other to loosen. Just be careful and take your time here.
Once you have the wick all the way in do your pulse fires and check for hot spots. This takes a bit of practice and patience. You will get it and there are detailed infos on this in Lady's links. One tip from me, the most important trick I've learned is the tightness of your coils is very important. To tight and they are a pain to work with and get shorts. To loose and you will have hot spots. I sort of move all them around while pulsing until they feel right. Then address any issues that are apparent.
Other than that I'd like to say that I wrap a 4/5 coil initially always for setup and break in. After about 1/2- 1 tank on it, I take off one wrap and its ready to rock. For me I just find this way to be the easiest way to get the vape that I want out of my iHy. There are many ways to get there. When I'm not experimenting, or if i just want to set it up fast and vape it, this is how I do it.
That is one thing I am sure about.

Now I understand... I think 90% of the population has me muted! lol
I need to find a way to get it tighter the wire kept braking on me in the pliers

Main thing is to keep tension while your doing it and make your twists tight as you can get them. When you are done your wire should resemble a piece of braided cable.
I am starting to second guess my 5 big ole sheets of 500 I ordered now lol. At least I will have a huge amount to experiment with until I get my perfect set up. I can't wait to have two ihys in rotation myself. One set up for the heavy VG stuff I like to Vape and one set up for some DIY PG blends I am mixing just for this device.
I'll pick a sheet or two up off you if you want. Also, pm me lemme know when you want your Quartz tank I owe you =)
It will lower the ohms as twisting the wire cuts the resistance of the wire in half.
Really in half WOW! How low do you guys make these coils? I usually get 1.2 to 1.4 on a 32g 4/5 wrap and/or 3/4 wrap half that just seems super low. But thats just me[/QUOTE]
You have to remember. I use a 3/4 wrap but I also started off with 4 inches of mesh shoved in the wick hole lol. My coils typically fall in the 1-1.6 ohm range, depending on if they are new or broke in or not. They rise in resistance as they gunk up and I'll typically dry fire clean them after about 4-5 tanks through.
Looks like it to me. Wouldn't the standard (non gun-metal) one have the same color as the atomizer top cap?
It would look more like the color of the switch. It's a gun metal one.
