Face,
Have you ever or have you considered selling the raw aluminum tubes?

I kinda want a couple of sets to play around with and was wondering?

How many wraps and what wire gauge do most of you use in these?

Also, anyone have a tutorial of a twisted wrap for a person who has never tried that method?

Hey Ob!

Think everybody has their own preference.

If you want a more pipe vape (but still stronger than regular 32g) I suggest 30g at 4/5 wrap.

For a more cig like draw, 3/4 or start playing around with 28g. As long as you meter everything and know your batteries limitations you should be fine (I try to keep it under 1/2 of the battery's rating).

Ez swears by the dremel for twisting wires. Personally don't like the extra hassle of twisting wires when I can just drop down in wire gauge.

Could also twist the wires with pliers. Just cross over the wires and use the pliers to twist while holding the other end stationary.

Not sure if we have tutorials for it but it might be in the spreadsheet.

I've been messing around with twisted 32g the last couple days. I just do like 10 inches of wire at a time and grab the ends with a pair of pliers and through an allen wrench in the loop and just twist as tight as I can til one of the ends snaps off.

I wrapped a 4/3 coil and came out to around 1.3 ohms I believe. I got a 5/4 wrap in my ERA on a very skinny wick just for bottom fed and thats at 1.2 ohms so width of wick has quite a bit to do with the final ohm result.

Hope that helps.

Thanks EF :)

No problem, Ob!

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Just remember to twist the wires tight (but not to the point it breaks). Had a few funky twisted coils due to bad twisting.

Have you tried 30g yet? If you're twisting 32g, they'll meter out almost the same.

Oh be careful if you're twisting the 30g. The ohmage can get pretty low with that easily.

What kind of vape are you looking for? Hotter/cooler? I'm guessing cooler since you're adding a wrap.

I have 28,30,32 and 34.

Just seems like my all day black raspberry is coming across a little burned.

It could be that the setup needs time to season.

If its a fresh setup, I would give it more time to see if the flavor settles.

Oh I get that too sometimes with fruit flavors.

Have you tried making a fatter wick (or are you already maxed out)?

Another suggestion is to go down in gauge but add extra wraps and make sure the ohmage is similar or higher than the 30g setup.

I'm finding lower gauge + more wraps at same resistance gives me a more mellow vape. I'm guessing more coils is touching the wick which is acting like a heatsink.

Let us know how your experiments go! I love hearing about new setups.

Will do.

So with 28 wraps, how many?

I would say 5/6 but it really depends how fat your wick is. I always let the meter be the final judge. If the meter says its too low, I just start over.

I usually find 1-2 wrap to be the approximate difference (for my coil/wicks), so if you were doing a 3/4 wrap 30g, I would say 5/6 28g but meter and if its too low add another (too high, drop one).

Oh totally forgot, have you tried offsetting your coils?

Basically bottom coils are closer, and more spread out as you go up.

Old picture from when I was still playing with 32g.

If you need a better pic, I'll snap one later this week with 30g or twisted.

I like how it evens out the vape. I always offset when using my delicate juices.
