That's a nice trick. Also had problems with coils popping. Must have wasted 5ft of kanthal LOL. Might go ahead and try that out sometime.
I actually found that my problem was that I didn't oxidize the wick well enough. Along with it touching the center post.
Biggest problem that I have now is that it isn't wicking fast enough. So, I'm getting a bunch of dry hits.

I was able to isolate the wick from the SS with Rolling Paper. Only way I can get it to not pop a coil. I am 100% positive on my oxidize process. I use the folded method for the lead edge. Still popping coils over and over unless I use the rolling paper down through the SS part of the tank.
Reading over the posts from Chief Thunder made me want to try out Twisted Coils. Works great so far. No isolator and no popped coils. Grabbed the good camera to get a pic for you all.
Meter shows 1.3 ohms
