Twisted is great. I've actually adapted it again. I've twisted the legs going to the terminals and wrapped the coils as a single piece of 32ga.

This sounds similar to twisting the "hot legs" in a vivi nova, which I always do in that device. Does it prevent hot spots in the iHy?

I wouldn't say its "necessarily" dangerous, but it can be..

What scares me is some folks misreading or misunderstanding what twisting the coils actually does to the resistance...

Nothing wrong with it providing you meter out the coils until you get a reliable set-up.

Running a coil with too low Ohms can cause too much drain on the battery. AW IMRs are pretty capable little batteries, but everything has its limits..

A multimeter is your friend if you want to play with this.

The other thing I'm not a huge fan of is that it tends to mask set-up problems. It gets recommended too much IMO for beginners who are struggling. Precisely the people who may not be using a multimeter, etc... Just don't want to see any friends get hurt..

That being said, if you're smart about it, meter it out properly to check the resistance of your set-up, its perfectly safe.

THAT being said, I've tried it, and have personally not seen any benefit. I've tried about everything out there with the exception of 500 mesh so far, and always come back to my trusty 32g kanthal, single wrap coils and 400 mesh.

Get them right and they will treat you well / last you a good long time.

Coil on my DID is now up to about 8 weeks if I remember right. Pluid V1 iHy I haven't had that long, but is also still on its first coil and vaping like a champ...

:toast:

So, you guys/gals who twist coils... Why not just buy 14, or 18g resistance wire instead? Is it too hard to work with? Also, what are the possible dangers of using a twisted coil? Vapor2112 mentioned it being dangerous during our sit down, but I didn't want to sound like too much of a newb, so I didn't ask him to elaborate too much... Now my curiosity is piqued.

Don't worry about poppling coils... Just wrap it up, nudge them around a bit, and you'll be off and running...
Sometimes things sound more complicated than they actually are.
I've been using Genesis devices since the early part of this year, I've popped a total of 1 coil. Just sayin..

Nice selection!

Yeah, we can wait for the Spider, Faceless. Looks like my GEv2 will arrive today, and I'll be plenty busy with that popping coils until I figure this stuff out. :D I can't wait!

The illuminati looks fastastic.

It may, but you shouldn't need to. If you have any problems when its time to wrap a new coil, we'll plan a coil wrapping session...
It'll be time for another lunch by the time that one I gave you should be ready to die anyway. :2cool:

No doubt bud, but its important to remember how many people may read through here, see just a few posts of a recommended set-up, not even understand wire gauge, twist up some 28g with a 2/3 wrap, and..... Probably less than ideal that's all.

EDIT: Steps off soapbox

I use my meter with any new device/setup until I'm comfortable with doing whatever I'm doing lol. I don't like explosions and or fire so close to my face.

Virginia is for vapers
I'm in Joppatowne just North of Whitemarsh/Baltimore County. Are you going to that meetup in Pasadena? I talked to you about the Green Envy pics you posted on MidAtlanticVapers, I'm Nick.
Probably not going, as I have something else I need to do, unfortunately.

Actually I know you said not to, and I hope you're not ......, but I couldn't feel like it was really mine until I built my own coil/wick... I'm a hands on kinda guy. With that said, it was a smashing success and I'm burning a little hotter than the setup you had in there. It's at 1.5 ohms on a 3 wrap of 32g and the higher wattage really brings out the flavor of my beloved Boba's.

I saved the wick and coil you made for reference.

LOL, its yours man, do what you want to!!

Glad you got a good wrap on there. (I will admit, I'd have been curious to see how long it lasted, purely as an experiment, lol).

Don't forget to budget in mesh, wire, and juice =)

Morning everyone, hope to check the mailbox soon and find a spider so I can officially join in on the iHy fun around here.

Until now I sit and read while vaping an undoubtedly inferior genesis product and dream of beautiful black tubes and creepy crawly spiders :)

I Have to go to school today and see my 4y old daughter in a Halloween parade .....
Would have been a great opportunity to freak out the other parents with an iHy spider ..... They would probably kick me out.

Ok enough whining .... Have a super great day everyone !!!

EDIT: BTW will I be alerted by email or on this thread the day they ship ?? Or am I flying blind?

Faceless will usually say when they shipping here and/or that you should be expecting a tracking number. Either way wether he says anything or not, you'll recieve a tracking number and shipping confirmation via paypal. I'm gona go camp at my mailbox cause my tacking says its out for delivery!!!!! Can't wait! Pluid V2 here I come!!!

I would have done the same thing lol. It's kind of like if you owned a gun that someone showed you how to shoot but you never even shot yourself lol. Gotta put a few rounds through it you know =) I forgot I need a multi-meter. Hard to check resistance on your Provari with an iHy lol.

I figured, and that's why I was afraid you'd be mad. I was torn between leaving it in to test the stamina, and my desire to prove to myself I could do it.

As for the lunch thing, I'm assuming we'll want to compare notes on the 14500 beta :D

Goodmorning Ihyb's ! Hope you'll having a nice day heading towards the weekend.

If I can wait for 6 months for an Orion why can't I wait a few weeks for that beautifull Spider?
So I vote for splitting into 2 files and wait one week longer.

I will never make anyone wait 6 months, thats crazy, I could make them within 6 months with a hammer and other primitive tools. Is there a rule for suppliers on time to release stuff? 6 months is a long time to sit on someones money.

Good morning folks, I'll be shipping all the orders placed on spare parts today.

No written rule, but in general we have to wait long.
One known exeption is the iHybrid :)
