Virginia is for vapers
Hello fellow hybreeds (I love that I can say that while vaping an iHy finally)! I have a not-so-quick question for all of you. My grandfather was recently diagnosed with emphysema and has been a long time smoker for 40+ years. He has tried to quit a multitude of times, and I have recommended electronic cigarettes an equivalent number of times. He has just come off of a year long break from cigarettes and I just caught him smoking again today. So I'm at the point where I'm just going to buy him one and demand that he use it. I know he'll like them, but he's the kind of old timer that hates technology and hates the internet, and so I have to take the plunge and simultaneously make this the easiest transition possible.

That being said, let me give you some of my background. I started vaping on a smoking everywhere cigalike around 5 years ago. I moved from that to Blu and then another cigalike and got frustrated with the technology and quit altogether (this was before I joined ECF). When I found out about battery mods, I reentered the vaping world after I started smoking again and went straight for a Prodigy V3. After the prodigy I went to Provari. From Provari I have gone to the iHybrid. As you can see, I haven't really been much of a "collector" over the years and I really don't have a lot of experience with other mods. I know Ego is a great starter, and I was just going to order two (one for my grandfather, one for my grandmother who isn't ill but does whatever he is doing), but I realized I would be ignorant for not asking this community what they would recommend. So here's what I'm looking for:

1. $60-$70 price range
2. Safe battery technology (if it is a built-in battery like an Ego)
3. Minimal maintenance
4. Vari-volt
5. Compact
6. This one is probably going to be a hard one, but does anyone know of pre-made atomizers on the market that do not use silica as their wick? I don't think it's safe and I'm sure it would agitate his lungs as they are now, so if someone knows of a quality atty that doesn't use it I would freak out. If not, then this list needs to be edited for a compact RBA setup that I can setup for him every few weeks.

Also, he has been smoking Marlboros his entire life, and is currently on Marlboro lights. I would like to find a juice that is as close to this flavor as possible. I personally haven't vaped a lot of tobacco juice and so I don't have a lot of recommendations.

Please, if any of you have advice for me, I would greatly appreciate it. It kills me to see him doing this to himself. He can barely breath now and it's obviously been worsened by the smoking. :( Please help me get him off the stinkies for good. Thank you Hybreed family!!!

On a side note, Face that whole New Years fiasco was hilarious to read, but I'm sure it sucked while it was happening. Sue the crap out of them!
I would probably recommend a VAMO mod for about $45-50.
On juice, I would say RAWR's Nutty Tobacco - it's on of the best tobacco juices out there that I have tasted and has that nutty "Marlboro" quality.
attys? for a beginner, I would probably go with Vision Stardust clearos - they have easy replaceable heads

I did 3 juice burns, but not on the whole wick- I never have, just the top part(hopefully this is where I'm going wrong!!)!!!!

And recently, I've stopped making a hole up the center, just rolling as tightly as possible. Is this what people mean by fat wick?

Thanks jinxt

Funny because I recently just went to the hole up the middle using a paper clip while rolling. I find its working very well. Also I'm guessing your using it on the IHy? Make sure that your fill hole isn't clogged, this is especially important on genesis style tanks when the wick is the same diameter as the wick hole. Without adequate air to the tank you won't create the proper capillary action. Just a thought. Good luck.

I always suggest the Ego-V for anyone wanting to try there hand at VV, it's an LED two button VV Ego battery for like $25. slap an inexpensive ViVi or carto tank and your good. advantage to this is also that for the same $50 they get a backup and it's not bulky enough to chase away newbies like some of the tubemods out there.

Thanks Phr0st, I appreciate the help. But those stardusts use silica don't they? I'm not sure cause I've never used one, but I'm trying to avoid silica.

Sounds like a good option, but what battery technology is it? How safe is the battery? I just have a hard time feeling like it wouldn't have a high chance of faulty machining for $25. But then again, like I said, I'm new to these devices.

A friend of mine (Uselessdreamer1 on the ECF forums) recently did a video on what to get a new vaper...here is the link: What do I get as a new Vaper? - YouTube

Hope it's not out of line to post that---I just think it's a pretty quick run down and very helpful.

I have friends that have ran with these for over a month so far with 0 issues, they are true Ego (not to be confused with eGo) and the biggest suggestion I would give is not to take passthrough seriously, the only bad incedents I'[ve been able to find researching them are people that vaped them while they had them plugged in. otherwise everyone I've turned onto them so far loved them at least until they got over the hangups they had on bigger battery mods like tubes and box's.

Okay, I just want to be sure because I don't know how I would cope with a battery I bought for him exploding in his face. Can you give me a link for a reliable vendor?

Lol cute animation but I already googled it myself. Just don't see any official suppliers so I was hoping you'd have a reliable one I could use.

I usually got them from vapedudes.com they have been very reliable, good juices to, but she's been out for a couple weeks I could check to see when she's getting more but you don't seem like you want to wait, and under the curcumstances you probably shouldnt.

Yeah I think I'm going to go with the eGo twist from cloudsofvapor. Seems to have pretty good battery protection built in. Now, how about that atomizer that contains no silica? Any suggestions?

WHEW, back to work after being off for the last 14 days and a 12 hour shift to boot this sucks.
Does anyone know of a mod/tank that I can carry and/or lay down with out it leaking. Need something to bring to work, ATVing, out fishing, general beater but good and has decent taste??
I was using a Zmax with the AGA-t had it in my zip up jacket front pocket leaned against the tailgate of the truck and the 510 connector and AGA broke free from the body. I was able to wiggle it back onto the base but I am looking for something more reliable.

I have always opted for a ego battery with a 306 drip tip and a small bottle in my pocket when thats a issue and its worked well for me.

I have been screwed over by the system many times due to my generic name. Remember one day in the Social Security office where the lady was trying to get a mistaken identity issue fixed for me. The person on the other end of the phone insisted I was in prison, she did not want to believe the women that worked for the SS department that I was sitting at her desk. Have two warrants out for me in Florida for PAROLE violation, not mine and cannot find them to fix the issue. Got a speeding ticket and the local officer was kind enough to talk to me about it, figuring it was a mistake. That was a funny night though, first speeding ticket he gave to someone in a Smart Car! Had a DUI and an arrest put under my name, had to go to the county prison to get finger printed to prove I was not the guy they arrested. I lost my car insurance due to that one, saying I lied about being arrested and having any tickets, took two years to get it fully fixed......the list goes on. I have never been that screwed over though. I hope you nail there asses to the wall Faceless!
Time for a Name Change? maybe?

Lol cute animation but I already googled it myself. Just don't see any official suppliers so I was hoping you'd have a reliable one I could use.
e-smokeytreats.com has a good stock on ego's and clearo's

My story is similar to your grandfather's, minus the emphysema, thank God. What got me off the Marlboro Lights was an Ego battery, a 1.5 ohm dual coil carto, and Grey Matter from www.mister-e-liquid.com. FWIW.

This is what I feared. Any small but decent rebuildables that won't look ridiculous on an ego twist?

J sent you a pm. The link is also in the references.

Thanks, I replied. Appreciate the info :)

Yeah - might have to go carto (ughhhh - [shivers])

Ughhh is right. But if it's what needs to be done, it's what needs to be done. But like I asked crash, any small RBAs that are cheap and won't look absolutely ridiculous on the ego twist?
