I would not apologize for that statement. We all know that Big Pharma, drug reps and docs are all working together. Certain meds are prescribed more than others...docs are partial to some drugs based on relationship with reps.

This is certainly an unfair statement at the least. I have a parent who is a Family doctor. He prescribes drugs based on what works and ALWAYS prescribes the generic version of any drug that has one. And yes he confirms it is illegal to except ANY gift from a drug rep. He says he has not known anyone who has accepted one or been offered one since the law... It just isn't worth it.

Drugs can adversely effect people... they also help many more.
I bet there are many people on here who are on medication for high blood pressure or cholesterol.
The drugs will probably add 20 years to you life.... HP is a killer.
The drugs may also damage your liver... You have to monitor it and make adjustments as necessary. It certainly doesn't mean it should be banned.

I only know one person who used Chantix. He was able to give up his habit. He says the dreams were a little unnerving but not unpleasant.

I think the report said 4.3 millions Chantix prescriptions over two years..... How many people were helped and NOT had the side effects?

Two, I get your point. As a layperson, though, I'm left to wonder... with vaping in full bloom for at least those two years, and with vaping receiving a surprisingly clean slate in the research thus far, and with doctors supposedly tracking that latest research and developments... why the millions of prescriptions still going out for the higher-risk Chantix? That's my beef.

I started Chantix last fall, smoked the first two weeks, took the pills for another week, and after that I stopped taking the pills and I was smoke free for exactly 4 months. While Chantix did help me stop smoking, it wasn't worth the crazy dreams (mine were more along the lines of me dreaming about having conversations with people, then waking up and not being able to remember if the conversations were real or not, really messes with your sanity...). After a few crazy dreams, I started avoiding sleep at all costs, and ended up staying up many nights bleaching the kitchen & bathroom, obsessively vacuuming and dusting, etc. While it did make my house freakishly clean, it was scary. And of course, the random, senseless fits of rage that put a few holes in the living room wall... Needless to say, I'm more than ecstatic to be off that crap. :vapor:

wow.. Its sad! I got into vaping with a different mindset than quitting. I actually but an e-cig to be able to "smoke" indoors during winter and "smoke" where it is banned. I ended up quitting within days of getting my first kit.

The problem is that people are skeptical when they see infomercials on tv about any product let alone e-cigs. I am sure the huge non profit that is against the big 3 tobacco co's might help if they were properly educated about e-cigs.. I forgot what they are called but they have radio adds and tv adds against Cigarettes..

@sawlight ,thanks for sharing this ..strength be with us all ...I am on celexa 40 mg after years of 20mg ...( started about age 39-40 ..47 now ....i am LUCKY that it works for me ,i know that .Mine is relatively mild compared to others including you .
And Krazie ,thanks for sharing .....there is alot research that suggests the nic acts as an antidepressant to some of us ...i know for me i cant do without ecigs ( hubby does not understand that yet ) and i also found mild pain relief with analogs as well as the "focus " they talk about with smokes .Ecigs are the closest i can come to analogs .Love you

I sent you a pm with some tips of how to relieve some depression, but since there are many people here that have to cope with it I figured I would share it with everyone.

A little story first of how mine started.

I was about 12 and I met a girl that I really liked, after a year or two of talking to her I found out she got hit by a drunk driver, and he was never found. That aggravated me because someone at the age of 12 should not have to pass away. I then started to cope with her death and about a year or two my grandfather and uncle passed away. My uncle was like a second dad to me, he would pick me up and I would go to work with him and go out with him all the time. Once those three people passed away, something in me snapped. I was not a happy teenager, always got picked on because I liked rock music, and made fun of growing up you know, the highschool bs, kids always fighting, or trying to haha.

Now here is what I did to cope with it. I read about meditation and praying. Now I thought praying was pointless but I tried anyway. I started to listening to music like this (See below) to meditate and I have been able to have a better day. I realised that meditation helps the brain to relax and your mind to calm down. I know, you do not have time in the day to do it well you can also do it before you go to bed, or whenever you have a chance, trust me it will work very well. You just have to try to keep your mind clear at all times, so everything stressful can escape.

Chantix... For me the dreams were so real it was like being awake 24/7. I kept waiting for Jessica Simpson to show up. Sadly she didn't. After 2 weeks the head aches started and that was the end of that. Be smoke free 2 years in Aug thanks to e-cigs and thats after almost 32 years of 3 packs a day.

HOORAY and CONGRATULATIONS to you, Scott!!! :vapor::rickroll::vapor:

Scott, you're lucky about one thing, though... that Jessica visited only your dreams. I hear she doesn't bathe often. Sorry about all the rest.

This is a topic I am very well versed in! I've battled depression my entire life, I've seen more shrinks than I have family members, starting in the third grade.
I started with Paxil, did good on that for two weeks, felt better than I ever have in my life. Going into the fourth week I was looking for trees that would be the most effective to kill me if I ran into them.
After much complaining and fighting, I was finally taken off of them.
Efexxor was next, it worked, to a point. Then came the migraines, felt like an axe in side of my head as well as a severe sensitivity to florescent lighting, that still bothers me to this day. I can literally count the cycles in the light and it hurts my eyes and head.
I was then assigned to experimental drug therapy, I've no idea what I took, I wasn't told and finally got onto Welbutrin which I platued on.
Chantix fits into this category as it is sold as an antidepressant as well as a smoking cessation aid.
Trust me, they are playing with things they have no idea what they can and can't do! Nor do they have any idea how bad it can mess someone up!
I've learned it's easier to cope waking up and wanting to blow my brains out, and fighting the urge, than it is dealing with the drugs that are supposed to prevent/help with that urge and their side effects!
This is really bad stuff guys, I can't believe the rules are so lax on the treatment of people with depression, it's really revolting if you know about it!
i can relate. to date i've been on Effexor, Wellbutrin, Celexa, a couple i can't remember and am currently taking a combo of Lamictal & Klonipin...if those stop being effective then i have to take the Lithium route (the whole liver issues make that a last resort type thing for me!)
