Ok so when I join message boards, I usually like to have my own little thread for stuff. Rather than ask a bunch of random questions in a bunch of random threads, I confine my--in this case--woe-itude to a particular string of Q's in my own little section of claimed virtual property.

And here it is.

Q#1) Or discussion #1, I guess.

In the last day or so, I've been noticing a strong "peppery" sensation upon vaping ANY flavor, from any vendor, on any 18 - 24 mg juice I try. Search results indicate that the "peppery" thing may be due to too high of a nic level. I suppose this is par for the course; it's going on two weeks without an analog and I think my mouth is just healing, but damn it's a crappy situation. I'm also starting to notice that I can taste my own mouth all the time and it tastes like ...... makes me want to brush my teeth way more often than I'm used to.

The weird thing is that I started on 12mg, couldn't get enough without going bonkers, doubled it, but now even the halfway point seems too much.

Smoking history point: at the time I stopped smoking, between the two of us, my girlfriend and I would smoke a pack a day, but I would smoke quite a bit more of it than she would. (With only her smoking now, a pack lasts several days.) I have notoriously gone on chain-smoking binges of up to two PAD in the past--years ago--though and once we started smoking outdoors only, I would still on rare occasions find the ability to smoke at least a pack that day.

I've only seen random mentions of specific personal experiences with the effects of quitting smoking. Is this a brief phase, or should I expect to have to deal with this kind of thing for a good long while?

I'm either going through expected transformations in mouth nerves or the dreaded "vape tongue" or both. I'm not so practiced at keeping exceptionally well hydrated and I currently only vape PG, so there's a lifestyle change I have to keep up with. Fortunately, it doesn't cost a lot to do so.

I've switched back to a 12 mg juice for now (thankfully I have some and it's been much better; the back of my soft palate doesn't feel like I've been scrubbing it with steel wool anymore) and have been making sure to keep some water going through my system better in the last several hours.

I do have a shipment of some 100% VG juices (from Virgin Vapor) that should be arriving quite soon, so that I can see what that buzz is all about and if it's more comforting for my current vaping tastes.

I also tried nomming a pickle to shock my tastebuds into awareness, as someone suggested in a searched thread. I do love pickles anyway, but I'm not sure if it really had any effect since I also switched to a lower nic level at the same time. It wasn't terribly noticeable.

Q#2) Or discussion #2, I guess.

Do you taste vinegar?

I have read that vinegar can sometimes be a useful ingredient in juice... something about lowering pH. Do you taste it in the mix though? Frequently, I get a faint vinegary (or something...) aftertaste from vaping and I can't figure out if it's the juice I'm using or just my damaged taste system going haywire.

1# ditto here on both, peppery, from the nic, my mouth eventually got used to it, I have noticed too that you can lower it a bit by playing with different delivery devices and voltage settings. And I get the cat crapped in my mouth thing too. I just think it's my little tongue buddies coming back to life and it's always been there just now starting to taste it. I have stocked up on mouth wash.

2# my taste buds have done all kinds of weird stuff since I quit, In the beginning any juice that had a creamy component to the flavor would make me retch, I could only stand strong citric flavors, now I'm the complete opposite, can't stand citric and now only vape tobacco juices, most with a creamy taste.
Some of the best advice I got in the beginning, other than DRINK WATER! Was to hold onto juices I might not like now because down the road my tastes might change and I might like them.

Thanks guys :)

I'm pleased to report that the nic level drop is continuing to improve my situation and the "cat crap" mouth  sensation has gone away. I will dread that one coming back, but will grab an extra big mouthwash bottle next Sam's trip. Soft palate is back to normal and juices don't taste like I'm inhaling ...... killers.

I got my Virgin Vapor juices yesterday and am totally digging the increased vapor of VG! Unfortunately, I ordered only 24mg juice, so I halved a small batch with straight unflavored VG. The flavor of the one out of the three that I chose is, of course, not all that it could be, but at least I can chain-vape it if I need to and I can always attempt to doctor the next little batch with some flavorings that I got with my DIY supplies that also came yesterday.

Distress modes averted.

Q3)

On the subject of voltage... I've seen the chart that graphs volts against ohms. I have a 1.8ohm head for my protank and several 2.5ohm heads. The chart indicates that on a 3.7 volt device like I have, a 1.8ohm coil registers at the very top of the green, while a 2.5 is somewhere in the middle. I've used both and I'm liking the 1.8 better so far.

Which is more ideal? Is it like The Price is Right where I should get as close to a target value without going over? Or be a little more safe and stick with the middle? Or are there more important factors to consider?

Here is how I handle Variable voltage (no it is not precise)

I start at the lowest setting my device does. Take a hit. If no burnt taste I up the voltage one notch (on my vamo that is .1). Take a hit. If no burnt taste I up the voltage one notch. Keep going until I get just a hint of unpleasant taste at which point I REDUCE the voltage one notch to the last good one.

No muss, No Fuss, No Charts

To me it is all about taste. If it tastes good then it is the right setting for me.

skip the chart and use rule of thumb.

resistance +2 voltage then adjust to taste/preference
1.8ohm+2volt=3.8v to start and go up or down.

there are too many variables now for the chart to be 100% accurate.
my 1.8 ohm dripper like 3.5v while my 1.8 ohm geni like 4.3v
juices, wicks, wire, all play a part clearos like to run cooler while a geni may like it higher.

the peppery taste is usually a symptom of juice in the mouth. while true we get kinda raw when we start sometimes, unvaped juice or mist will make it worse and you shouldnt be getting this.

My experience with the Protank heads steers me to the 1.8 ohm heads regardless of device used to fire them. This especially holds true for my fixed voltage stick batteries. However...tastes vary so you'll need to experience it for yourself to know what's best for you.
