let me know how it's working for ya Bobalex

I think ultrasonic cleaning is the best way to clean the junk out of cartos. No boiling. No heavy duty rinsing. Just a couple of 3 minute cycles ... replace the hot water ... and then a couple of cycles more. Drain and Taryn spin ... cartos are as if new. So far my KR808 carts, my Go-carts, and the new mini-Go-carts are coming out clean and rejuvenated.

What are you using for cleaning liquid?

Just hot water.

Went through my weekly deep clean of attys tonight and worked over the two "iffy" Echo-e's while I was at it (using the GoGo instructions mentioned earlier). Fortunately we had some drinking straws that seemed the right size.

On the one with the slightly burned taste, there was a small but noticeable burned spot in one corner of the inner wick and corresponding light burn mark on the fill material. Was able to snip off that small corner of the wick and pick out the burned fill material.

The one with low vapor took several more dry burn attempts than the other before glowing well, making me think the coil wasn't heating up properly before. Other than these two observations the process was fairly straight-forward (if time consuming, being the first attempt).

Reassembly with the straws went well, keeping the wick material slightly damp and the fill patted dry with a paper towel (hoping it will reduce dry time). They seem to be tamped down properly and the center "pipe" is actually centered now (neither was before).

Guess I'll let them air dry until tomorrow and try again to see what happens. Report to follow....

I know it's a pain to read about "Now You Have To Buy Another Thing" in order to vape but ... I bought an ultrasonic cleaner:

Amazon.com: Original Bogue Systems .. Professional Ultrasonic Cleaner .... Cleans Jewelry + Optics + Eyeglass + Cd + Dvd with sonic waves + Blitz Gem & Jewelry Cleaner (Concentrate 8oz.) + 100% Cotton Flannel All-in-one Jewelry Cloth: Electronics

And It Works better than any other cleaning method I've tried.

My 2 cents.

Do the cartos turn out "as new" after cleaning them? Also, how many times have you cleaned the same carto?
Even if one could clean them once, to get use of the carto twice, it would be a good buy i think.

OK, final report on these I guess.

This morning the fill material seemed dry enough, so re-filled my two freshly cleaned Echo-e's (this time, NOT with "favorite" juice, but one I still like).

The one that previously had the small burn spot on the wick/fill was WONDERFUL for about four draws... then stopped producing vapor at all. Listening to it while powering the battery, there's no "sizzle" like you should hear from just about any atty/carto. It's pretty clear that the coil has popped and this one's dead now.

The one that had very little vapor, still has very little vapor. Taste is a little stronger, but I'm not getting a satisfying hit at all.

So... sorry, I'm sure that these are great cartos when one gets a good batch, and I'll finish using the one that works OK (and hopefully the one replacement that's coming) but my experience will not lead to getting any more of them. Guess that leaves more for you guys that have better luck than I. :)

The ultrasonic cleaner from Harbor Freight is a nice affordable unit. I tried that ultrasonic with various cartos (not Echos) using PGA. Unfortunately I could never get rid of the harsh taste of the PGA. Kinda gave up after that.

Speaking as someone who stands empty bottles upside down just to get the last 2 drops out, spending a lot of time cleaning a used $2 carto didn't seem to make much sense. Ended up wasting a fair amount of liquid on an old carto that now tasted like PGA.

After reading the post by bobalex, this morning I put an Echo-E carto in the ultrasonic with only hot water. I'll report on the results after an overnight drying period.

FYI - the ultrasonic *did* remove some black paint from the Echo-E. Actually I wish it had removed *all* of the paint because I want some silver cartos anyway.

JJ :)

I purchased two from cropduster901 (fantastic service) and opened the first one today..

First, I am a die-hard cone + cartomizer user, so these intrigued me. I use cartomizers and a cone on a REO Grand also. I like my Riva, but I don't like having to continually top off cartomizers.

Quality control: No problems with threading and no problems with burning (but I also let cartos sit for a minimum of 4-6 hours after filling). The wrap inside was way off center (see photo), but I've found this issue on many cartomizers. Doesn't seem to affect the performance.

Flavor: About the same as a Boge 2.0, maybe a bit sharper. I am using New Peach from Vapor Bomb.

Vapor: Sufficient (I blame the mouth piece).

Heat: Not warm, not cool. I prefer more warm.

Throat Hit: Zero (I blame the mouth piece), but, I am using a fruit flavored juice.

Mouth Piece: I hate this thing. It's soft and it feels good, but it would take me forever to get used to it. Unfortunately I only have 510 drip tips, so I can't try anything else with this carto. I did tail-pipe it and got a glob of really hot juice in my mouth, which might explain why the mouth piece has a teenie-tiny hole (see picture comparing to a 510 aluminum drip tip). On the positive side, it's QUIET. This is silent vaping.

I think it's a decent product. I like the cone feature. I think it would be much better with a drip tip though. The capacity is amazing. I put slightly more than 3 ml in it (measured) and it has not leaked, plus the end of my Riva battery is clean/dry.

Next Up: I ordered a 510 to 510 adapter and am going to try it on the REO Grand. Adapter should arrive Tuesday.

Before I used an Go-go or Echo I was a Elegant Easy 1300 XXL/KR808 guy. My carto of choice was the Gold Label Deluxe from CigEasy. Since I purchased the ultrasonic cleaner I clean the Go-carts, Echo carts, and CigEasy's Mini-Go-carts when their performance drops to the level of a Gold Label Deluxe. Which is still a pretty high standard as far as I'm concerned. The results?

All the cartos come back to almost new. What do I mean by almost new? I suppose if I did a blind taste test I probably couldn't tell a new carto from a cleaned carto. The difference seems to be how many times I can refill between cleaning. The cartos still perform well but need cleaning sooner.

I only use tobacco flavored 100% PG juices. Your results may vary if you're a VG guy. Bottom line? I'm getting way more than 2 uses from a carto. Waaaaaaay more. I use 'em until they're dead.

Happy Vaping.

Bob

how long do you let the cartos dry before they are ready to be used again?

I give the carto a taryn spin to get most of the moisture out and then an overnight drying. I almost ... almost ... I came this close to buying a cheap food dehydrator ... but I realized that overnight drying is free ... and cutting the drying time by a couple of hours just wasn't worth spending another $20 ... all to lengthen the life of a $2 or $3 item.

Okay, here is the update on cleaning an Echo-E carto with ultrasonic and hot water. The results are good.

First of all, I let the carto dry for 48 hours after cleaning. Not sure if that was necessary but the Echo has a lot of filler so I wanted to be sure. There are faster drying techniques described in other posts.

I *slowly* filled the carto with liquid until that first drop came out the bottom. It was 65 drops if my math is correct. Then I let it sit for 15 minutes.

The first 6 or 8 hits were very weak. Possibly from some moisture remaining in the filler? After that it started hitting like new. Been vaping it all day and it still hits like a champ.

Good Day, JJ :)
