They were taking them from DVD burners (sorry, meant DVD) until that guy showed where you can buy them.

I have had a laser pen sitting here for a couple of years that I used to play with the cats (they love chasing that red dot).

That would make such a great, stable, reliable, heat source for an atty, I would think. Some of you super-modders need to help us out on this. It could potentially revolutionize our hobby. ;)

You would need something to absorb the energy (as noted). Since the liquid is (mostly, generally) clear, an optical wavelength (we can see it) laser wouldn't work *directly*. Would probably be too much energy in too small a spot anyhow. Direct it to a black metal plate in contact with the juice, however...Now, if you could find an absorption spectrum for PG:

You could select a laser that would heat the PG directly, and other things with oxygen hydrogen bonds like water, but that's a different beast.

I'd have to wonder if, for the purposes of heating, it may be less efficient to do it with a laser than just resistance, but wouldn't know since I'm a chemist not an electrical engineer or thermodynamics expert of any kind...
