I work with silicone and neoprene hose used in things like pneumatic controls and samplers quite a bit. (Chief engineer in a water treatment facility)
A very slight tear or a small area of a bad seal can be and is usually the culprit in terms of leakage although a loose connection is a case of a leak for sure. A trick to applying hose is to dampen the nipple or hose a wee bit before assembly to get a good seal. One would assume that squonking places a lot of pressure on the seal.
Will finish off the last of the home slice I have in my bottle and disassemble/reapply.
