Here is Keith Emerson with his band prior to 'ELP', doing a tune I'm sure most of you will recognize... ;)

"The Nice created an arrangement of Leonard Bernstein's "America" which Emerson described as the first ever instrumental protest song. It not only uses the Bernstein piece (from West Side Story) but also includes fragments of Dvořák's New World Symphony."

"Hound Dog" was originally recorded by Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton in 1952. The 1956 version by Elvis Presley is the best-known version; it is his version that is No. 19 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

And the winner of the first leg is.......Reddhott with post #2. Talk about setting the bar high! I have to say this is probably my all-time favorite cover for now. Music is personal but what I love about it is how a cover should take the material and make it their own. IMO, Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt" transcended to such a high degree. Now the front runners are out of the way. So go for it. Find something else that on Sunday night I can say... and the winner is....
