For years I have kept two little spray bottles on my desk, one with alcohol and one with purified water for rinsing, to clean whatever drip tip I am using every day. With things as they are now with everyone being urged to wash their hands regularly it's not a bad idea to also give your mod a once ever every day. Same thing with cell phones.

I hear ya Z. I don't clean my stuff often enough. Most of the time my DT's are not that bad, but occasionally they are. Then I do more regular cleanings for a while, but in a few weeks I'm back to my old habits

It doesn't really bother me too much TBH, I'm nowhere near a germophobe, but once things get that yuckie even I get grossed out. I have a bunch of white DT's and I find that helps me see when they get nasty, dark ones need more attention to stay on top of.

as you can see I’m no germaphobe either haha
I will have a brilliant immune system... if I don’t die trying

also, don’t tell my fellow English brethren that I read the letter Z as zee not zed now

oh the shame

For most of my life I've felt that our society takes the concept of clean with regard to microbes so much to heart that it has become detrimental to our health. I don't roll in doggy do-do for the health benefits, and I am careful with things that have a risk of killing me and others like the new coronavirus, but I don't consider a dirty DT to be a health concern.

It's worked for me for 63 years, but of course everyone's mileage will vary with this stuff :)

Don't worry, I won't tell a soul :thumb:

The germaphobes do more damage to the human race than the normal ordinary youth of today, I really am not gonna judge you on the state of a couple old drip tips.

Really, I judge the meat industry for feeding cattle expired antibiotics (and yes, I pay the premium for free range every time) so they can be raised in filthy inhumane conditions. Also, the entitled germaphobe mommy's insistence that like their darling must be treated with abx when it's something that would resolve on its own but NO.

Most often these days I TRY a freaking Z pack it often fixes it the germs may have forgotten their resistance to it, or even Amoxicillin has its uses.

I mean the quinoline abx-- they can freaking KILL you not to mention SNAP at tendon not just MONTHS but YEARS later, can you imagine that happening? I CANNOT. They're starting to be less effective too.

We are only going to freaking like feed the OCD germaphobe situation with an overemphasis on this drip tip thing. For the love of GOD you don't even know how OLD they were, really. Give up the guilt, save a child from OCD parenting while spraying bacteria killing stuff anywhere when some bleach and elbow grease worked BETTER, actually for decades and well, there are GOOD bacteria, too.

Water, by itself, created the grand canyon, technically you don't need soap at all to wash your hands though it makes you "feel" better, the water does most of the work--that and the friction.

Cause seriously we have Staph and resistant TB and NEITHER are fun to deal with but no one freaks on THAT. They should. Both conditions are a LOT more serious than COVID and probably cause equal healthcare infection but they've been around so the OCD germaphobe isn't here squawking 'OMG I BLEACH MINE FOR SEVEN DAYS EVERY FIVE DAYS IN FACT I NEVER VAPE."

It's not a not interesting topic but really, Zut, you are fine. Give the self flagellation a rest.

Every time I take the top off a tank to refill, I wipe it with a paper towel (including drip tip) When I re-wick, I just rinse everything with hot water. When I put a new coil in my RTAs, I also use alcohol after rinsing (cheap vodka actually) I don't vape as many ml as many people and have several in rotation so they don't build up as fast.
What sucks is the other day I went to re-wick my RTA (coil just needed a quick dry-burn) I had stuffed the rayon in so tight it ruined my coil (26 ga Kanthal) pulling the wick out. I really don't want to do a new coil just to put in a fresh wick!
That's the main reason I like to use a heavier gauge wire, like 22ga. I still get fairly low resistance coils but the coil itself is fairly sturdy and wont deform during re wicking. My last order for juice, I ordered 2 more spools of kanthal. It was supposed to be 22ga but they sent 30ga. I'll get imaginative and do some fancy wire twisting to make a thicker wire out of it. Creates little juice holding nooks and crannies. I still like a 22ga plain round kanthal though. Coils made from this are sturdier and last a long time.

~Once a week when I rewick I take my in use atomizers and give them a hot water bath/scrub/rinse in the kitchen sink. Then a quick dry burn, then reassemble and a new wick.(I spin a new coil every few months or so.)

I basically vape unflavoured so I don't see much gunking up of my coils.

I’m always self aware, critical and never deluded. That’s why I’m so brilliant.

Ps. those drip tips were horrible ;)

That's perfect for twisting... do you have a drill? I just got some 24 ga Ni80. I was in a hurry when I yanked the old wick out... next time, I will cut off one side and gently twist it out. I've used the 26 ga Kanthal before and never had that happen but I really stuffed the wick super tight this time (will back off a bit this time)
