So, I'm in a little upset stage of my vaping right now.

I'm in the quest for an ADV, but every juice I order online (except for one shop that runs both a B&M that I can get to every other weekend or so) tastes like a bottle of perfume when it arrives. It gets gradually better with time but then the true flavor comes out and I find that the juice isn't quite what I was looking for. My wife and I are getting upset, and the bottles are piling up (so is the money).

Is there any retailer (online) that you guys have found that doesn't taste like eau de (insert flavor here) when it gets to your door? At this point, I'm willing to spend a little and be more lax on shipping times if I could find a good vendor.

Or is this something I should come to expect from all vendors, and just have to wait for "steep" time to find out if the juice is good? I'm open to DIY if that solves the issue.

Thanks for reading my story, and for all that respond. Vape Happy!

Many juices need to steep for a bit when you first get them. Others are tasty the second you rip the package open. It takes a while to find the juice that works for you. I find simple flavors (like fruit) tend to be good right off the bat. More complex flavors may need some sitting time before they come into their own.

I have 2 bottles I received today that are sitting on the window sill to catch the sun. They'll most likely sit there for a couple of days before I try them again.

This is why I am wanting to start a "recommended steeping guide"

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/general-e-liquid-discussion/418203-possiblity-starting-recommended-steeping-guide.html

I think that this can help people in the long run.

Typically the 'perfume' taste is the concentrated flavoring not having time to steep/blend. Typically you will get these from freshly mixed juices vs pre-made juice that has been sitting on a shelf waiting to be delivered. Someone please correct me if I am wrong .

The thing about this is when I get juice in the B&M that I buy from (All About Vapor in Round Rock, TX) it's made to order and as tasty at day 1 as day 31. Do you think that is due to them having their flavorings out on the shelf and "steeping" as it were? They take the flavor and add nic and pg/vg in the store right in front of you.

Sometimes it needs to steep. Some flavorings have a perfume taste to me regardless.

I also have tried way to many liquids that were "perfumey" if that's even a word. I have about 40 different TFA flavorings, and have mixed quite a few juices at home. NONE of them, whether steeped or not, have ever tasted or smelled "perfumey" I have no idea what causes it, but I hate it.

Unsure I have had some of AAV juices and they are good, the whole steeping thing is new to me historically I have ordered juices that do not require steeping as in Rawr vapor, pink spot, TTTeliquid (not plugging my brother), LiquidExpress and way back in the day Totally wicked. My wife loves Tastyvapor's Pineapple but they have recommended steep times if the juice requires it. She constantly has a 4 - 8 oz in waiting so she does not see the steeping thing as much as I saw with the tastyvapor peach I got from them.

Also if your in Austin try out Liquidxpress, Rob and them are great people and their approach to juices are different they are in Round rock as well. Also they have monthly vape meets as I am sure your aware of having been to AAV :) the big meets at the pizza place brings in juices from multiple vendors that you can try right there. I am sure that any vendors there can address the possible steeping issues.

Have literally hundreds of bottles from many vendors - 3 vendors come to mind that are "Vape ready" -I'm sure there are many out there however these two vendors have amazing juices that are different than anything that I can create with all of the DIY flavors on the market.

Rawr/roar vapor -,amazing tea vapes and complex mixtures - favorites are green peach tea, earl grey, any serum series - love peach serum

Quantum Vapor - not well known yet but these guys make hands down the best fruits available - they are so natural tasting - very simple and full tasting - blueberry is truly a masterpiece along with honeydew, black walnut, lime, plum and black cherry - have vaped over 20 of their juices - all vape ready

Halo - must give them a mention however their tobaccos need time and ar not vape ready however - the Belgian cocoa is so authentically chocolate it tastes like hot chocolate with steamed milk and a huge fan of kringles curse which is a real tasty candy cane peppermint vape

I truly believe if you order some of these juices you will be happy

Perfume taste can often suggest a juice is made with tobacco absolute (TA). There are lots of different ways to get tobacco flavoring into juice these days. TA is a tobacco "flavoring"; extracted chemically from tobacco. It tends to be very oily and perfumey in nature, so a little bit goes a long way. Too much TA and juice will taste horrible. Steeping (while shaking often) does have a tenancy to reduce the perfumey taste once these essential TA oils marry with other components in the juice.

Really, not many vendors do such a great job with TA, but an example of one who does is Mom & Pops vapor. I'm not a TA fan, but I just love what Mom & Pops does with TA! They are my favorite vendor to date!

If you want to steer clear of perfume taste, try to find a vendor who offers NET tobacco (HHV for example). NET's are naturally extracted and tend to have a "cleaner" tobacco taste. One vendor I love, Ahlusion, uses a non-typical extraction method utilizing C02. Their juices are very good - no perfume taste, spot on flavor, and very clean.

I'd read somewhere about a method to "quick steep", and found that for a few flavors, it makes a big difference.

Yesterday, I received an order from Mom n' Pop, two of my favorite flavors; Covered Ape and Pchela's Poison. The first time I received an order from them, there was the very distinct perfume smell and taste, which took about a week of steeping to go away. This time, however, it took one night. All I did was, as soon as I received the order, I first shook the bajeebus out of them both, then I placed both bottles, uncapped, in a bowl and poured boiling water around them, as high as I could without them toppling over. I let them sit until the water was room temperature, then repeated that twice. The plastic bottles were fine, no melting.

After a night sitting open, I dropped some liquid into a fresh dripper and had a shot. It was PERFECT. Also, both had darkened noticeably after just that one night.

I also tried this with some tobacco flavors that generally want at least a month of sitting. The portion I'd heated in this way mellowed considerably, and the "perfume" smell was gone, however I'm still going to give it more time as tobacco juices still like more time (from what I've seen), and while this did improve the taste, it's not quite there yet. However, these juices from Mom n' Pop decidedly improved to a greater degree. I'm actually puffing away on the Pchela's Poison right now :)

I personally think steeping is overrated. Flavors are enhanced somewhat if they're allowed to steep. And by steeping, I'm doing what the vendor suggests, cool dark place for a week or two.

Good liquid gets better, I've noticed this with DIY. Bad liquid just stays bad.

Liquid definitely changes over time. But I do agree that if you don't like it fresh, you probably won't like it steeped. The exception to this, for me, are NET juices. Mostly NETs with other flavors either added after the extraction or extracted w/ the tobacco. After time the flavors mingle and become one 'taste'. I know that sounds confusing, and I'm sorry if it is. But I really can't explain it better.

About the perfumey taste: most of the time it's because there's alcohol in the flavoring. Leaving the cap and dripper off overnight will allow the alcohol to evaporate. But I won't leave caps off for more than a night. You wouldn't leave the lid off of a pot of stew (which also develops more flavor w/ age), would you? That's rhetorical and not aimed at anyone in particular.
